Heinrich Schliemann spent his nights reading Homer and dreaming of finding the lost city of Troy.

What followed made him one of archaeology’s most controversial figures.

SOME SONGS DESERVE A TRANSLATION.

There’s a generation of artists coming out of Greece with plenty to say about the world we’re living in. And Nefeli Fasouli is one of them.

Her music is fearless, her lyrics are sharp, and she isn’t afraid to challenge the world around her.

This is why Greek Fringe exists. To bring artists like Nefeli to Australian stages, where their music and ideas deserve to be heard well beyond the Greek-speaking community.

Drawn Into Antiquity - A solo exhibition by Herk Alexander at the Hellenic Museum, Melbourne

For the past seven months, my graphite drawings inspired by the classical sculptures of the Musée du Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay, have lived within the historic walls of the Hellenic Museum, Melbourne. Presented in quiet dialogue with the museum’s remarkable collection and grand architecture.

When art finds its place among antiquities; following are a few glimpses of the show, in what has been a profound milestone.

For those who haven’t yet experienced the exhibition, I invite you to see the works in person before it draws to a close, on Sunday 18 October 2026.

This week our education team partnered with the @hellenic_museum for a day of professional learning for Humanities teachers. From handling ancient artefacts to exploring parliamentary processes, teachers experienced an interactive journey through ancient and modern democracy. Participants described the day as "fantastic" and "an amazing experience".

Excited to announce this years guest at the Hellenic Museum Ladies Society Garden Party is Mary Coustas!

You may remember her as the unforgettable Effie from Wogs Out of Work, but there is so much more to Mary’s story.

A writer, performer and storyteller, Mary’s life has been shaped by humour, cultural identity, family, loss, motherhood, resilience and reinvention. Behind one of Australia’s most beloved comic characters is a woman of enormous depth, honesty and heart.

This year, it felt especially important that the Hellenic Museum Ladies event also shine a light on our own extraordinary Greek-Australian talent. Mary has given us one of the most enduring and beloved characters in Australian culture, and celebrating the woman and story behind Effie felt particularly meaningful.

I’m so looking forward to sitting down with Mary for a conversation that goes well beyond the character!
