A little piece of Melbourne’s Greek-Australian history 🇬🇷

Before Stalactites became one of Melbourne’s most iconic Greek restaurants, founder Konstantinos “Barba Kostas” Tsoutouras had already made his mark in hospitality, building the Zorbas restaurant chain after arriving from Greece in 1968.

When Stalactites opened on Lonsdale Street in 1978, it became much more than a restaurant. It was a home away from home for Melbourne’s Greek community, serving traditional food and bringing people together, eventually becoming famous for its late-night souvlakis.

A reminder that behind the names on our old football shirts are sometimes stories woven into Melbourne’s wider history. 🇬🇷⚽

☦️ A Blessed Sunday to Everyone. 🙏❤️

On this beautiful Sunday, may we remember that no matter what challenges we face, how heavy our hearts may feel, or how difficult life becomes, our Lord Jesus Christ never abandons us.

Sometimes we pray with tears, sometimes with gratitude, and sometimes in silence because only God knows what is in our hearts.

May our Lord bless our homes, protect our families, bring healing to those who are suffering, comfort those who are grieving, and give strength to those fighting battles nobody knows about.

As Orthodox Christians, our faith reminds us that prayer is our strength, forgiveness is our path, and God’s love is our greatest blessing.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us, guide our steps, and never let us lose our faith in You.

May the light of Christ shine upon every home today and always.

Have a peaceful and blessed Sunday. God bless you all. ☦️🕊️❤️

Αμήν. 🙏☦️🤍

🇬🇷 OXI DAY 2026 | ΖΗΤΩ Η ΕΛΛΑΔΑ!

On October 28, 1940, Greece stood against fascism when Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas rejected Mussolini’s ultimatum demanding passage for Italian troops through Greek territory.

That defiant “OXI” (NO) marked Greece’s entry into World War II and became a lasting symbol of courage, resistance, and national pride.

Because "NO" is a complete sentence. And "NO" needs no explanation. 🇬🇷

There comes a time in life when your heart gets tired. Tired of giving, tired of forgiving, tired of being there for people who would never do the same for you.

I’ve learned that no matter how much love you have for someone, you cannot force them to value you. You cannot beg for loyalty, teach someone to care, or keep breaking your own heart just to hold on to people who have no fear of losing you.

Choose those who choose you. Respect those who respect you. And let go of those who make you feel forgotten.

Sometimes the hardest lesson in life is accepting that the people you would do anything for wouldn’t do the same for you.

I haven’t stopped having a good heart. I’ve just learned that not everyone deserves a place in it. ❤️‍🩹☦️🤍

What is HELLAS? 🇬🇷

Around the world, our homeland is known by many names: Greece, Grecia, Grèce, Griechenland, Yunanistan, Hy Lạp, Греция, and more.

Why so many? Because different civilizations came to know the Hellenic world through different moments in history. Some names trace back to the Roman Graecia, while others came through ancient Ionia and the Ionian Greeks.

Different languages. Different alphabets. Different histories.

But the land is the same.

A land of philosophy, democracy, faith, art, tradition, resilience, and a culture that has influenced the world for thousands of years.

Whatever your language calls it, we call it home.

Proudly Hellenic. Always. 🇬🇷

☦️ Greek Livani (Λιβάνι) – A Sacred Orthodox Tradition 🕯️

For generations, Greek Orthodox families have burned Livani in their homes and churches. Its beautiful fragrance symbolises our prayers rising to Heaven. 🙏

How to use it:
Light incense charcoal in a heatproof burner, allow it to heat up, then place a small piece of Livani on top. Make the sign of the Cross and say a prayer.

Always use it safely, with ventilation, and never leave it unattended.

❤️ Livani is more than a beautiful fragrance. It is a reminder of our faith, prayer and love for God.

🕯️✝️ A CANDLE LIT IN SILENCE, A PRAYER OFFERED WITH LOVE. 🤍

Sometimes, the most beautiful prayers are the ones nobody knows about. Lighting a candle for someone who may never know you did it is a quiet act of love, faith and compassion.

In our Greek Orthodox faith, we light candles as we bring our prayers before the Lord Jesus Christ, asking Him to protect, guide, comfort and bless those we hold in our hearts.

You don’t need to tell the world who you’re praying for. God knows. He sees your heart, hears every silent prayer and understands even the words you cannot speak.

🕯️ Some prayers are never spoken aloud, but they are always heard by God.
