What if the biggest barrier to mental health care is not just cost, coverage, or provider availability — but language?

In this episode of At Work, Under Pressure, I sit down with Warren Sadler of @hellotherify for a thoughtful, deeply human conversation about emotional literacy, access to therapy, grief, workplace behavioral health benefits, and what it really means to help people find care.

Warren’s path into behavioral health was shaped by personal loss, family grief, healthcare experience, and a deep belief that words matter. After working in healthcare and seeing how difficult it was to find meaningful support even with resources, Warren became increasingly focused on the gap between offering care and actually helping people access it.

Therify works as a care navigation and access company, helping employees connect with behavioral health support through a more personal, concierge-style experience. Instead of leaving employees to figure out therapist directories, insurance eligibility, cost, fit, timing, and availability on their own, Therify helps make the pathway to care clearer and faster.

In this episode, we discuss:

🧠 Why words matter in mental health, crisis work, and workplace conversations

🧠 How emotional literacy helps people understand and communicate what they are experiencing

🧠 Why mental health care access is more complicated than simply offering benefits

🧠 Warren’s personal experience with grief after losing his father and grandmother close together

🧠 How family, loss, and caregiving shaped his work in behavioral health

🧠 Why therapy matching is about more than credentials or availability

🧠 The difference between being invited to care and actually having a place set for you

🧠 Why employers need to help employees navigate the care journey, not just provide a benefits portal

🧠 How skills like active listening, emotional vocabulary, and basic therapeutic concepts can be taught earlier and more broadly

🧠 What leaders need to understand about the hidden complexity inside every employee’s life

Al is already part of mental health care.
The question isn’t whether we use it.
It’s whether we’re creating systems that are actually safe for people.
My work in tech focuses on designing guardrails for Al in mental health.
That means thinking about things like psychological harm, misinterpretation, bias, over-reliance, and what happens when vulnerable people interact with automated systems.
Innovation without safety isn’t progress.
It’s risk disguised as efficiency.
This is the work behind the scenes that most people never see, but it matters deeply.

Excited to share that our CEO & Founder @lisa_bontasumii will be speaking at the 2026 @unitedsoccercoaches convention in Philadelphia this January ⚽️

Leading up to the Convention, she’ll also be hosting a @unitedsoccercoaches members-only webinar in December focusing on equipping #coaches with evidence-based tools to support athlete #resilience and thriving environments.

We are proud to bring #visibility and #representation to the Asian Pacific Islander Coaches Community — and to continue building spaces where ALL diverse voices and lived experiences strengthen our game.

"Prioritizing mental health at work isn’t just good business—it’s about showing up for the people who show up for you."

Vanderbilt Business alumnus James Edward Murray (MBA’17), CEO and Co-Founder of Therify discusses managing mental health at work and why employer support is essential.

By investing in mental health at work, organizations enhance productivity, keep employees engaged, and attract and retain top talent, reducing the costs associated with burnout, turnover, and healthcare costs.

I ended 2024 on a professional HIGH by having the privilege of hosting @hellotherify’s Wellness Dinner for senior DEIB executives in San Francisco.

Since our founding in 2021, we’ve worked at the intersection of mental health and equity, so it was an honor to break bread with fellow leaders navigating crucial and uncertain times in the DEIB space.

Our time together reminded me of the power of community, especially when that community is united by a shared mission and purpose.

Thank you to @thebatterysf for the hospitality and to @hellotherify’s Director of Clinical Strategy and Operations, @dr.clairerb, for helping to plan the perfect evening!

Last night was pure magic at the @hellotherify DEIB Wellness Dinner: There’s something powerful about being in a space where you can truly bring your whole self and connect with others who have a shared vision and purpose. From the deep conversations to the shared laughter, every moment reminded me why community is at the heart of meaningful change. Walking away feeling inspired, grateful, and energized by the brilliant minds, open hearts, and fresh vibes around that table. Thank you to everyone who made this evening so special. When they say representation matters, this is what they mean.

🏙️ A new contract coaching adventure took me into the “big city” this week. Coaching in-person is a nice periodic change up from our new virtual norms!

🤩 I had the amazing opportunity to provide stress management coaching with @hellotherify - an incredible resource built to provide greater access to mental health resources, including therapy, stress management coaching, and more!

🧘‍♀️Check them out - and don’t forget to take care of yourself, including your mental health and wellbeing!

🤝And leverage those company perks like your employee assistance programs, if you’ve got em!

@hellotherify exists for one reason: to change lives. Here’s one of my favorite stories of a life changed 🧡

Just wrapped an incredible few days with the @hellotherify team in Brooklyn!

Every year our full-time team gets together for a multi-day off-site where we connect, adventure around a new city, and align on our priorities for the next 6-12 months.

When we founded @hellotherify, I didn’t realize that I’d be blessed with a group of people who would begin as coworkers, and quickly become family. Building a remote-first company can be challenging, but it makes these moments together so much more meaningful.

I wouldn’t choose to be on this journey with anyone else 🚀🧡
