POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I recently had the opportunity to deliver a keynote at the Spectators of the Undercommons conference with Studio e-t at AUC.

My talk reflected on architecture as a speculative and political practice.Working through memory, drawing, and storytelling as tools to imagine futures beyond imposed realities.

Grateful to Studio e-t and @aya.musmar for creating a platform that challenges dominant modes of thinking and invites us to reconsider what architecture can do and who it is for.

Meet the organising team of the Specters of the Undercommons conference:

Hend Mohamed is currently a research assistant at the American University in Cairo and a practicing architect whose work is driven by research, narrative, and contextual reading . Her approach treats design as an investigative process—one that begins with observing people, history, and place creating insights into spatial and visual concepts. Alongside professional practice, she has engaged in research-based projects , campaigns and workshops with students and children, using storytelling, placemaking, and participation as tools to learn and explore the scope of preservation via practical creative application.

Through her co-founded NGO, which focuses on reviving small cities, she has worked closely with urban memory, community narratives, and cultural documentation,
exploring the different narratives of people to unearth the “know-how” of the marginalized communities in her city.

She is the co-founder of @siiin_org and @rootsnwaves Magazine.
