Our destination of the month is the Pacific Northwest, which coincides with the release of a map many of the staff here at Stanfords have been raving about.
Into the Pines: An Unauthorised Guide To The Real Locations of Twin Peaks by @herb_lester is a map which highlights many filming locations from David Lynch’s cult TV show set in this densely evergreen-forested region of the Pacific Northwest. Whether you are a fan of the show or not, the beautiful, rugged coastline, mountainous regions, and challenging Pacific Northwest Trail make the Pacific Northwest a destination not to be missed.

🌲 Adam and I have had a mutual love for Lynch ever since we met in 1994. We’ve visited all the real life filming locations of Twin Peaks and this guide and map is a love letter to David Lynch and all of you peakers out there!

🌲INTO THE PINES

This fold-out guide charts 42 real-world locations behind Twin Peaks, tracing the sites that stood in for David Lynch and Mark Frost’s fictional town. It pinpoints the Double R Diner and the Great Northern Hotel, Ronette Pulaski’s Bridge and White Tail Falls, drawing together sites from the original series, Fire Walk With Me and The Return.
Based on rigorous on-the-ground research, the guide is for fans planning a trip to Twin Peaks country as well as anyone revisiting the series from an armchair. Most locations are roadside or a short walk from parking; a few, including a wooded stretch of the Weeks Falls Trail and the ascent of Mount Si, the peak from the opening titles, call for proper footwear and a bit more time. what3words coordinates are given for these harder-to-pin-down spots. A list of the essential sights is included for those with limited time, alongside a suggested two-day itinerary.

The folder includes the fold-out map and a separate double-sided A5 card with the itinerary.

Oh, the pressure I put on myself with this design to not let the Twin Peaks fans down. I worked with the great @herb_lester to design “Into the Pines: An Unauthorized Guide to the Real Locations of Twin Peaks”. There were a number of ways we could have taken this design based on the series, but ultimately we leaned into the 1950s/90s travel brochure and vintage diner placemat theme in honor of Double R Diner. The itinerary takes inspiration from the opening credits’ neon green titles and the map colors reflect the Twin Peaks High School bathroom aesthetic. I had a lot of fun making up ads for the filming locations while toeing the line to not infringe on copyrighted show phrases or design elements!

Writers @tree_carr and Adam Carr created an incredibly detailed itinerary and guide that didn’t miss a beat.

The guide is now available for preorder via Herb Lester and out October 13th!

A witchy haul from @blackmoonbotanica on Candlemaker Row in Edinburgh, a gorgeous and cosy shop packed with magical items. This perfume oil is divine, and I was so happy to stumble across the encyclopaedia as it’s very rarely printed these days! 🌛🕯️✨

These are some city guides from @herb_lester I absolutely love each of these and the design and styling. Personally, I'd just like to frame them!
