Last week, we announced our next demo in our Live Demo Series: Parallel Pen Play with Eleanor Doughty (@herbcoil)—link in bio!
💙
Join us online on Wednesday, October 14th at noon Pacific to explore varying line weight with Pilot Parallel Pens. These pens are ideal for building a strong value structure and are an excellent tool for transforming mundane scenes into a striking sketch!
🖋️
What to Bring

• Pens: Pilot Parallel Pens, any fountain pen with a fude (bent) nib, or a square-tipped calligraphy marker with waterproof ink.

• Marker/Watercolors: A light-colored brush pen or thick marker, or your favorite watercolors for adding over your waterproof ink sketch.

• Brushes: A favorite round brush.

• Paper: Smooth, heavyweight paper, such as hot press or lightly-textured cold press.

• BONUS: Eleanor shared her amazing, illustrated downloadable resource, “Drawing with Calligraphy Pens.” This 8-page PDF is a perfect, concise guide to calligraphy pens, offering tips, exercises, and ways to modify your tools. Find it via our Events page link in our bio.

tried a different strategy for #streetviewworldtour this time, where i sketched this location during the workshop, then scanned it and finished it digitally afterwards. digital art is more in my comfort zone than traditional so i’m very happy with how this turned out

Join us online for our next live demo, Parallel Pen Play with Eleanor Doughty (@herbcoil) on Wednesday, October 14th at noon Pacific—link in bio!
🖋️
Calligraphy pens can create an amazing range of line widths and effects depending on the angle and pressure applied. In this demo, we will explore varying line weight in our sketches as Eleanor demonstrates how to use Pilot Parallel Pens, an accessible yet powerful tool that works as well for drawing and dynamic mark-making as it does for calligraphy writing, for which it was originally developed!
🌳
These pens are ideal for building a strong value structure—an important foundation for all urban sketching—and are an excellent tool for transforming mundane scenes into a striking sketch! We hope to see you there!
👩🏻‍💻
Not able to join us live? The demo recording will be available shortly after the live session on our Demos page, link in bio!

These are my sketches from the #streetviewworldtour -session in September with guest-artist @marielledurand.artist . As you can see, the topic was "pink" 😅.
As we all were told this, I thought (only 1 or 2 seconds) to freak out and start looking for my pink pencils. Then I calmed myself down and said: No. This session will work without pink!
(The giraffe (picture 3) didn't think so. She started looking for her pink materials. I think she got a bit distracted, because someone who has passed the spot in Toulouse recently, phoned me and said, that the giraffe is still at the same place....)
We had 20 minutes for the sketch with the cars, but I skipped another one and drew 40 minutes. It's funny, because a few weeks ago I sketched a similar scene. So I had already some "palm tree experience" 😀.
In picture 8 you can see, what I had on my desk and in slide 9, which materials I used.
For me it's quite a lot!
I am looking forward for the next session in Oktober!
Thank you so much @ronkiponk and @herbcoil for hosting 💚💛💙.
