Part 2 of 2. @hester.syoum picks up where she left off: what happens when farmers leave the demofarm. At our last bootcamp, 2,000 farmers came to our farm. They spent the day in the plots and left confident, because they understood what was taught. They saw it. They felt it. They tried it with their own hands. Now they're applying it on their own farms and telling their neighbours about it. That is the part no training plan can force. A farmer who has watched a technique work on soil like theirs becomes its best teacher. Knowledge that lasts. Knowledge that spreads. Because farmers teach each other far better than we ever could. Your turn: think of the most useful thing you know how to do. Did you learn it from a manual, or from someone who showed you? Tell us in the comments. Missed part 1? It's on our profile. #coffeeeducation #demofarm #ethiopiancoffee #bettebuna

The two people behind all of this. Hester is from the Netherlands and has always been a dreamer - the one who looks at a hillside and sees a classroom. Dawit is Ethiopian and more of a strategic realist - the one who asks who is paying for it and when the container ships. They have worked together in Ethiopia since 2009. Bette Buna came in 2020, after almost two decades of creating opportunities, mentoring communities and building systems that empower people. The company was not the beginning of the work. It was the point at which the work needed an engine. Ask them anything in the comments - about the farms, the training, the coffee, or why anyone would build a business this complicated when a simpler one was available. They answer these themselves. Put people first. Everything else is logistics. #EthiopianCoffee #SpecialtyCoffee #Ethiopia #SocialEnterprise #CoffeeWithPurpose

• Gratitud infinita a Valencia!

— #CoffeeForImpact #OrigenYComunidad #ValenciaIsCoffee

Ever wondered what it takes for your coffee to go from farm to cup? Join Hester Syoum-Westerveld (@hester.syoum) from @bettebuna on the Main Stage for “Coffee Farming 101: What You Never Knew About the Bean”. Hester is the founder and CEO of Bette Buna, though she insists she’s just one small part of a much bigger engine. With a background in community development and business administration, she’s spent 16 years in Ethiopia – from supporting minority groups with business, sports, and education, to working in the complex environment of Taferi Kela (Sidama). Today, she works closely with 3,500 farmers and an inclusive team to show that coffee can bring both commercial success and social change. Most at home among the coffee trees, Hester occasionally steps on stage to share Bette Buna’s message: coffee is more than a drink – it’s a powerful vehicle for hope and change. 📅 Sat 14:15 – 14:45 📍 Main Stage Nordic Coffee Fest 2026 Bananpiren, Gothenburg
