This particular shark had a hook stuck in its mouth. When I spotted it looking all chilled I tried to take it out I was literally a tiny bit away from getting it off but it moved and I couldn't manage it in the end gutted But we're heading back to the same spots soon and I'm proper hoping I'll cross paths with it again The biggest myth in the ocean: sharks aren’t monsters, they’re absolute legends they just need to be understood! Working down there right among them every day, I always get asked Aren’t you terrified? Truth is, sharks are predators by nature, but they’re definitely not out hunting humans They’re actually proper sensitive creatures, and it all boils down to two things: our behaviour as humans, and the shark’s state of mind at the time. Take one of the cleverest and most impressive sharks in the Red Sea the Oceanic Whitetip. They’re naturally curious; totally chilled if you respect their personal space and body language, and know the drill. The cutest little hammerheads I’ve ever seen 🥹 These are the smooth hammerheads of the Azores. Seeing just one of these unique sharks is always a thrill but seeing 50+ in the water blew my mind. Thank you @searidersdivecenter for taking us out and teaching people the importance of their nurseries in the Azores.

After weeks of wide-open landscapes, Stone Town was the exact change of pace I’d been itching for. The maze of narrow laneways, the heavy, intricately carved doors, and the endless stream of daily life spilling out of tiny shops gave me the first real chance in a while to do some proper street photography. 🦈 It’s shark week & it’s important to shed some awareness about how sharks are vital for a healthy ocean ecosystem. In fact, we cannot SURVIVE as humans without sharks! ✨ Humans kill 100 million sharks per year for shark fin soup, overfishing, pollution, commercial by-catch, shark nets & habitat loss. ✨ In 2025, there were 88 confirmed shark attacks. That’s the entire year, worldwide. Of those 88, only 47 were classed as “unprovoked” – that is, bites on a live human within the shark’s habitat without any provocation from the victim. 🦈 This is one of the biggest misconceptions about great white shark diving... People often think operators are feeding the sharks. They’re not. The purpose of a bait trail is to create scent and movement in the water that encourages a shark to investigate the area—not to reward it with food. But this isn’t something that anyone should ever attempt. It requires strict permits, experienced professionals and a deep understanding of shark behaviour. Every movement matters. Too much stimulation and you risk influencing the shark’s natural behaviour. Too little, and the shark simply loses interest and swims away. When it’s done responsibly, it becomes a carefully controlled interaction that allows researchers, filmmakers and divers to observe one of the ocean’s greatest predators up close—while respecting the animal and minimising disturbance. A once in a life time experience that not everyone will experience in their life. I have been swimming with sharks around the world for the last few years but nothing compares to what we have seen and experienced facing the ultimate apex predator of our oceans.
