I invited Wade Guyton to do an exhibition at the Aspen Art Museum, and he didn’t have an idea at the time. He wasn’t ready. So I told him he had an open invitation to show at the museum anytime he wanted. Every once in a while I would check in and say, “Hey, do you have any ideas? You ready yet?” And he would say no.

Then one day Wade called and said, “Okay, I have an idea.” He had been sailing with Peter Fischli and asked Peter if he wanted to do an exhibition at the museum too. The idea just kept getting bigger and bigger. Eventually they took over the full museum—all six galleries, out front, and the roof deck sculpture garden. It became this massive, immersive, amazing exhibition that came from an open invitation.

I love that idea. Sometimes you extend the invitation and then you give someone the time and space to be ready for it.

U-Haul Gallery was a bright spot on a stormy day in Manhattan. This was the second year of DIY Gallery, which provides itself on a clever gimmick to job people in. It’s a creative solution to the outrageous rents. The commercial spaces are forced to pay, and the enormous cost it takes to put on the show in New York City. They did a great job this year of thousands of people came out and it’s a good example of teamwork! Hopefully more people will follow this pattern of doing smaller scale shows and getting more art out into the public!

@uhaul_gallery ABSOLUTELY FLOOOOORED WHAT THE HECK 🤯🤤😭💥‼️ dare I say this might be my fav exhibition/ fair/ display of works that I have seen in nyc…?! This concept was actually INCREDIBLE and this made me really feel like this is why New York is New York!!!!! The way all the different galleries were given the same structure to wirth with but each tweaked to their own ethos of the gallery was so creatively stimulating and really tickled my creative brain hoho BIG FAN

Where does the landscape end and the human mind begin?

A quick conversation with artist Marcos Acosta about geometry, landscape, and the idea that the division between ourselves and the natural world may not be as real as we imagine.

Filmed in front of his work during a beautiful installation by Hexton Gallery in Snowmass.

Where art, architecture, and landscape converge.

A beautiful evening in Snowmass celebrating how contemporary art can shift the way we experience a home.

Hexton Gallery brought a thoughtful installation into 231 Maple Ridge Lane, pairing works by Andy Millner, Marcos Acosta, Liz Nielsen, Evan Hecox, Andrew Kuo, Rodrigo Valenzuela, and Michael De Feo in direct dialogue with the architecture and the mountains beyond.

Thank you to Hexton Gallery, the artists, and the Sotheby’s International Realty brokers who hosted such a special evening at this remarkable Snowmass residence.

I’m always drawn to the intersection of art, architecture, and place. At their best, they’re all part of the same conversation—shaping not just how we live, but how we see.

The first time I took the gondola up Aspen Mountain, I thought we were close to the top. And then we came over the peak and I saw what seemed like an almost infinite number of peaks, as high or higher, almost as far as the eye could see.

It gave me this perspective that sometimes we’re so focused on what’s right in front of us that we miss the magnitude, the repetition, the patterning, and all of the things that connect everything together. I love nature as much as I love art because every single time I spend time outside, I learn something about myself and about humanity.

What has nature taught you?

Thanks to Bob Chase @hextongallery @aspenartfair_org for the question. One of three. Full conversation on the About Art Podcast.

There’s something about a home tucked into a beautiful Aspen grove. 💫

At Maple Ridge Chalet, soaring great room ceilings, open living spaces and expansive heated terraces create an effortless connection between indoors and out - with plenty of room to gather, entertain, and enjoy in every season.

DM “Chalet” for listing details.
