Fleeing is my love language
I can’t think four weeks ahead
Who knows where we will be in July

_

I was born a writer, the words weeping from skin, the pencil a sixth digit, always proud of the indent left. I have novels and transcripts and character sketches that started when I was still drawing pictures for my stories. My first picture book was about abortion (never one to shy from the topics that are hard!) and this week I found a green folder from 1996 with subplots and lists of words to use instead of cry: grief was always a second language for me, my first novel begins as the soil is hitting her mothers casket, as she pulls her shawl closer against the biting wind. It was stormy grey. It was romance. It was a world I didn’t understand, and yet, I did.

Wild to me we were always who we are, we just had to dig a little find our ways back. I’ve always known I’m a sucker for raw truths, will bang my head against a wall if you don’t go deep with me, that something about death calls to me like poetry. Not scared, but aware of its presence. I’ve always loved storytelling and spinning of lore and romance, especially the rom com 90s version is my favorite but also give me lovers after 70 years who’ve grown around each other like trees in the woods and let me wonder at them and marvel at all they have endured, at their scars. Did they choose each other in every life, every timeline? Isn’t life magic? Don’t you agree?

The days tick on one after the other like proud little soldiers in a row, never stopping to ask if I’m okay with it or if I’d like a break from their never ending parade. I beg time to stand still for a just a moment and I click my shutter and by some grand magic it does and for that moment we live forever, for a moment we are infinite. 🥹💫💫

We sat between vortexes, hiked til one of us almost passed out (me), looked at our auras, played in the water, drank a lot of juice, met a magical man named Robert handing out heart stones, and survived a possible airbnb break in.

All in one weekend. ❤️
