🔊It’s getting easier and easier to call myself a DJ (did you know I’m now a DJ?) In the beginning I jokingly called myself a DJ to hype myself up. Fake it til you make it right? But as I quickly started getting gigs, I also started becoming unsure. I was just out here having fun! Did I really want to DJ? Did I really want people to take me seriously?

😕It makes sense why it took me a while to make up my mind on a DJ name because it also took me a while to feel like I really wanted it. Yes it’s fun and I always have a blast, but can I make a living out of that? Out of just having fun? I’d been told to keep my head out of the clouds and my feet on the ground. Work really really hard so I can enjoy my life later. But I would consistently gravitate to the things that brought me joy and made me feel good, without ever believing that they could last. Was it really possible to succeed at the things that were undoubtedly a hell of a lot of fun?? Could I do that?

🎉Turns out I can! In a world that has consistently taught me that suffering is the only way to happiness, I keep forgetting that allowing yourself to feel happiness, fun and fulfillment is the only true way to find those things. September showed me that I can allow happiness to enter my life without feeling weird, guilty or bad about it. I am super grateful I got the opportunity to play at @hashhouse.club for @nftdaycolombia, got to sneak off to San Andres to relax for a little while, get to f*ck around regularly with some amazing DJs I met here, and I am so grateful the @park.hoppers meetups I plan ALWAYS end up being lit 🔥

Next stop in the Amazon was Monkey Island!

It's literally an island in the middle of the Amazon river that just has monkeys.

You had to be careful of what you were wearing (no perfume, insect spray, earrings etc. Allowed) cause it could harm the monkeys or they could steal them 🫠 Overall it was a great experience cause they were literally JUMPING from one person to the next, using the random people in their space as the path to get to where they need to go.

They were cute though.

Also, if you notice anyone from the crew missing, it's cause they were not about that life of monkeys on their heads. They just watched from a distance 😂

Day two in the Amazon started with RAIN! But that didn't stop us 😅

Our first tour took us to an indigenous community located on the river bank of the Amazon River. We saw how the people in the community lived (very connected to everyday things like TV, internet etc) but still connected to the land around them (fresh fruit trees in abundance, wooden houses, plants as medicine etc.). In all honesty, it reminded me of any island in the Caribbean. Just that they spoke a different language.

Speaking of, the tour they gave us (and all the others) were in Spanish, so I didn't catch half of what was being said unfortunately. But just know, people are there, happily living their lives in the Amazon, surviving on tourism just as we do.

Spotted: a video of the first inhabitant of that community. The "Abuela" who I think they said was well in her 90s.

My first attempt at visiting Santa Marta solo was a BIG fail 🫠 but I guess everything happens for a reason lol.

We arrived in the Amazon!

Ain't no way anyone coulda tell me that I would've touched any part of the Amazon Rainforest during my lifetime. But I did! And with friends and family at that. I love the adventurous spirit of my mom, Aunties and friends who all jumped at this opportunity when I shared it with them.

This was when we first arrived in the town called Leticia in Colombia. We then took a car, then a 1hr boat ride to our "resort" in the bush (no wifi or hot water) for 4 days.

Life has been moving full speed! From birthday celebrations, to beach trips, to a vacation in the Amazon - I’ve been going non-stop this month…and, of course, this would be right after I uploaded a video about how I’m going to sit still 😂.

Now I finally have a moment to pause and reflect. I can’t put into words how grateful I am for all my family and friends 🫶🏾🥹 near and far, I appreciate everyone who helped me celebrate another year of life!
