i came across an old diary where 80% of its contents were about how i hated myself for not having enough “discipline” to stop eating and for being “too fat”. in this entry i drew what i felt i looked like. i then looked through my photo gallery to see how i actually looked like and being able to see baby me and what was going on in her head broke my heart 💔

the things you say and do to children will impact them for the rest of their lives!

this is a love letter to my inner child, all the inner children who needed it too, and the future children who hopefully don’t ever have to feel like they aren’t enough just because of how they look or how much they weigh 💌

i started from zero work outs a week- it didn’t come naturally at all.

but then one day i found something that worked and then it didn’t matter what body i had, what sport (at one point all that got me out the door was a walk) how motivated i was, i just showed up.

i never really had what media defines as “fitness body goals”, and i’m never the strongest or fastest, but ive been showing up every week for the last 12 years and counting.

sustainable movement was always the point 🏋🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️🎾🏌🏻‍♀️ TL;DR: just show up!!!

four years of @hi.smithy 🤍🌸✨

after hating myself all my life for not being a size 0/2, 100 pounds, a 25 waistline, or whatever number society tells us we need to be to be worthy of love, i realised i couldn’t continue living my one shot at life hating myself until i became a version i could love.

in 2022, i decided that something needed to change and it wasn’t going to be my body. i started sharing my journey into what i first thought was going to be body positivity, but somewhere along the way turned out to be basic self respect and body neutrality.

after multiple pop ups and events (that i miss doing but life happens!!), 585 (now 586) socmed posts, a growing team of volunteers, and getting vulnerable and facing my fear of sounding stupid, our online body acceptance community and non-profit org has been empowering others to respect their bodies in all versions they come in for four years and counting :) the meaningful convos i’ve had with everyone in this community online and f2f through the years have truly changed my life!

hi smithy! is dedicated to my younger self and to being the person i wish she had growing up. and ofc a special shout out to the legendary smith/smithy, who the community is named after, may he rest in peace 🥀

thank you to everyone that’s been and still are part of the community 💗 here’s a little reminder that you can always visit our page, send us a message, or drop a comment on our posts when you need a reminder that you are worthy of love and respect, no matter how your body looks.

(and if you’d like to contribute a post or volunteer, DM me!!)
