Each Books (@hidingplaceplace and me) announces its newest publications, the FUGITIVE POETRY and FUGITIVE PROSE of the late Gerald Burns (1940-1997), a truly singular writer and poet. This is an edition of 25. Mark writes, “I was good friends with Gerald (and briefly his boss!) for several years before his early death at 54. He was a generous man, a patient reader (of young poets, at least), and loved nothing more than to talk books. I learned a great deal from him. Gerald often shared unpublished work - I have perhaps 200 pages of such in my possession. These two chaps - one poetry, one prose - collect work that remains unpublished or has not been collected elsewhere. Like all Each publications, they were designed by Arbutus K. Cay, my partner in this hugely lucrative enterprise. $12 each or both for $20, plus $4 shipping. DM @hidingplaceplace to order. We’re still working on putting together a barebones website...” More coming up this year from Each!

Our good friend Mark Johnson @hidingplacebooks made a mix for this month’s show that perfectly captures this year's winter blues, a feeling of desolation and global heartbreak. 💔 Mark is a poet, publisher, and book dealer who spent years unearthing private press music in Philadelphia which he generously uploaded to his Hiding Place Soundcloud. It was a labour of love that lead people from all over the world to fascinating discoveries in obscure personal songs. Hit with several unfair copyright infringements Mark pulled the archive several years ago, but last month made it live again. This show is a celebration of Hiding Place, a true gift to the tower of song. 🏤 #hidingplaceplace #hidingplacepress

Pleased to present “Imperfection, Achieving It,” a sequence of sixteen poems by Mark Francis Johnson. Excerpts here; read the full poems on Tagvverk dot info (link in bio). * “What they’ve cried this evening over   loudspeakers – who knows, noise. My guess, water is a   the least form of powder? that’s true. However, that’s wrong   everything is the same, it’s all conspired to kill   another of my teeth. Dear molar how seldom really I saw you, yet   I am begging you look at me, nine teeth down,   grieving you beneath a sky loudspeakers occupy.    So, this is shock. No further points just one: it is total fucking crap   I should lose another tooth to this world.” * MARK FRANCIS JOHNSON lives in Philadelphia. He is one-third of Hiding Press, along with Andy Martrich and Jon Gorman. His latest book is Diary of a String (Spiral Editions, 2024).

DIARY OF A STRING, Mark Francis Johnson. In Diary of a String, Johnson offers the reader yet another beautifully psychedelic, at times hilarious, at times gut-wrenchingly sad snapshot of this constantly expanding and accreting universe. We amble through a flotsam of compacted late capital stratae of trash, universes of foreclosed possibilities, weird vegetables, persons and things assembled in the fucked desklight of gig economy "free time," genealogies of items, worlds, and characters defined by mishap and obscurity. All of this and more, etc., as the salesman would refrain--presented with a diction, syntax, and narrative architecture that all at once seems to ooze and move with generosity, possibility, and mutable unselfishness while exacting a sharp, crystalline method of meaning and representation. Everything is possible here, even beyond the horizon of the given story, even as the horizon of the story doubles and fractals recursively past the limits of what we hold to be true as story, as horizon, as possibility. "The /spontaneous productions of the earth get rarer," and we should all be so lucky that Johnson is able to record some of it for us to sample. (Contd in comments) Diary of a String Mark Francis Johnson ISBN: 979-8-9899037-0-2 6" x9", 82pp, perfect bound First edition, first printing of 350 Printed in “New York,” occupied Canarsie and Munsee Lenape lands, “USA” Design by @thealiens.online $18, plus media mail shipping in "USA" $18 shipping "everywhere else"
