Get your self a friend like eli. 4 weeks ago he zelled me $100 so I could buy my plane ticket to Switzerland, I didn’t even have a passport at the time. Tomorrow we leave for the alps at 11am and for 16 days we’re just gonna get after it. Maybe 17 because we might go to Tulane for Halloween. God knows, I don’t.

When you get the first ascent of the season it usually comes with a little cleaning. Especially on routes such as this one.

Can you name the climb?

Some views from our recent trip to sardine peak lookout. 10/10 recommend this overnighter if you can snag a reservation. The views were magic and the riding is enjoyable although arduous at times.

Bike bags made by yours truly @9livessupplyco with a special appearance from my @highmountaingear Empanada pack.

Last one from Thin Red Line. Upper portion of the route. Unfortunately we didn't get any good pics on P5, the 2nd 5.12 crux pitch, which @deanithoswald led and sent on his 2nd go. He found the infamous cam placement in the roof without much trouble and hung on it (it held), figured out the moves, topped the pitch out and lowered, then pulled the rope and fired it. I took a few hangs on TR to figure it out. The sequence is cool to climb, may involve a toe hook, and would probably get V4 or V5 as a boulder problem. Respect to anyone who is able to onsight that!

The pitches after that all went pretty smoothly. P8 was the last crux at 11+, featuring insecure thin laybacking up seams and slopers. Cover photos show me on some of those moves. P9 was another standout, a long fun 10+ corner with an awesome finish. Dean is shown climbing thru those moves up onto M&M ledge in the video. From there you can rap the route back to the base or continue up rambling 5.6-5.8 terrain to the summit. Dean hadn't summited Liberty Bell so we had planned to summit and carry over.
🔷🔷🔷🔷
That plan was going well until Dean got us off route while leading a simul block. We probably ended up pretty far left of the proper line and had to improvise a bit. We ended doing one more difficult pitch up a scruffy left facing corner that Dean somehow led cleanly. It did eventually lead us to scrambly terrain and the summit. A bit nerve wracking but we made it work and still got off the mountain before we needed headlamps. Got back to the van and did the shuttle shortly after dark, drove down to the Lone Fir campground, and got one of the best nights of sleep I had all summer!
🔷🔷🔷🔷
All in all a great adventure and fun time. It's a good enough route that I'll surely get on it again with hopefully some better fitness, a plan to rap from the ledge, and the intent to give myself some time to work the pitches if necessary and go for a red point.
