This Juneteenth we pause to honor three extraordinary women whose dedication ensured that this day of freedom would be recognized and celebrated across our nation: Dr. Opal Lee, Lula Briggs Galloway, and Clara Peoples.

Long before Juneteenth became a federal holiday, these trailblazers spent decades educating their communities, organizing celebrations, advocating for recognition, and preserving the history of June 19th, 1865, the day freedom finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas.

Dr. Opal Lee, known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” advocated tirelessly to ensure this historic day received national recognition.

Lula Briggs Galloway brought Juneteenth celebrations to Michigan and tirelessly advocated for its recognition.
Clara Peoples introduced Juneteenth celebrations to Oregon and built community through both activism and service.

As we approach the 250th anniversary of America, Juneteenth reminds us that freedom in this country has not been experienced equally or simultaneously. It is both a celebration and a call to remember the ongoing work of creating a more just and inclusive nation.

Today, we honor these women and the countless others who carried the legacy of Juneteenth forward, ensuring that this chapter of American history is never forgotten.

❤️🖤💚 Happy Juneteenth.

Behind every great reel is a content creator who has replayed the same audio 900 times.

You may have noticed Liv was missing from this year’s team retreat in Barcelona — due to a broken wrist. In case you didn’t know, you cannot travel within 48 hours of getting a cast 🫠

She worked tirelessly from Brussels to make the Barcelona content happen and despite her face in this video, she has lots of fun doing it! See you next time BCN ☀️

Don’t worry, we were working… just with a better view 🥰

Woke Media spent its latest team retreat in Barcelona, balancing client work, strategy sessions, city walks, and a lot of really good food (like…a lot). We worked from @junohouseclub, explored the city while NY was still sleeping, and spent our evenings enjoying the best sunsets, cuisine, and culture that the city has to offer.

We also made time for some of the city’s best moments, including celebrating Sant Jordi 🌹, wandering the grounds and architecture of Park Güell, and taking in the long-awaited reveal of Sagrada Família without scaffolding!!
