This is our morning routine. Josie and Peanut get us out early, and it's so nice because it's quiet season now, and there's no one on the beach. Not quite.
Most of the creative work for my first novel happens on a beach at 6 AM, walking with Josie. It's called Black Circuit: Thread 72. The first chapters are free to read. Link in bio.

I built a game. My protagonist in the story wakes up on a plane, everyone else is unconscious, and she has to figure out what to do. So I built a game, Doom style. You can move through the cabin and the galley, use the control panel, and go all the way to the cockpit door. Bang on the door, try the keypad, try the interphone. There are Easter eggs in it. Just a fun thing.

Seriously, there were thousands of sausages covering the forest floor. Thousands. The race was the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc. I had run through two nights, almost 40 hours of running at this point. I thought, okay, maybe there's a sausage cartel, and they're smuggling them across the border, from Italy into Switzerland, or Switzerland into France, I don't know. So I reached down, and I thought, I need to see, are they cold, or are they hot? This is very important information. I picked one up, and I'm staring at it. And I realized it was a pine cone. About an hour later, I crossed the finish line. That is my favorite memory from that ultramarathon. All right, so what you got? Best hallucination story?

Earlier this year, I had an idea for a novel. You take prediction markets, and that meets reality TV gone bad, where people want to bet on things that are happening, but it's criminal. And you set it first on an airplane. A woman wakes up on a long-haul flight and everyone is unconscious, the flight crew, everyone. She can't wake anyone up, can't find anyone to get help. And later, we find out that people are betting on what happens to the plane, what happens to her and anyone else on the plane who wakes up.
I spent eight months and I wrote the novel, and the novel is finished. It's called Black Circuit: Thread 72. The first chapters are free to read. Link in bio.

Josie is chilling, and where's Peanut? We saved Peanut from the streets. She was tiny, abandoned as a little puppy, and now she's getting a lot bigger and doing really well. Then there's Bruce, a good boy. These are our three Thai street dogs, living a good life now, and ready for their evening walkie.

Back on Samui after an awesome trip to Japan. I walked a lot, ate so much, and lifted nothing heavy. So I'm back at my favorite gym, not motivated, pushing myself just to get back into it. Like always, the hardest part was getting out the damn door. It was fun once I got here. Great session. Good to be back in it.
Ko Samui is where I wrote my first novel, Black Circuit: Thread 72. The first chapters are free to read. Link in bio.

My favorite beach on Ko Samui, and the place most of Black Circuit: Thread 72 gets worked out. Josie digs for crabs. I walk and write the next scene in my head, then go home and spend the whole day on the prose. Seven days a week, and it just makes me happy.

I loved living in Switzerland. But I had this huge creative project I wanted to bring to life, and I could never make it happen there with the cost of living like a gun to my head. Moving to Thailand was about a lot of things. One of the biggest was this: a beautiful place with a lower cost of living, ideally suited for writing. Every day here is a writing day.
That project is my first novel, Black Circuit: Thread 72. The first chapters are free to read. Link in bio.

She runs through the curtain into the galley. One flight attendant is on the floor at a jump seat, another in the hallway to the cockpit, and two more are down beyond the service cart. A moment from Chapter 1 of Black Circuit: Thread 72.
It starts as a survival mystery in a contained space and grows into an international thriller. The first chapters are free to read. Link in bio.

The joy of satisfaction does not pay the bills, but it sure feels good.
When I filmed this, I had two chapters to go, after eight months working full-time as an author on a book I hadn't sold yet. No advance. No idea what income it will generate eventually. It brought so much joy to my life to finally focus on this project and get it done.
It's finished now. Black Circuit: Thread 72 is 38 chapters. The first chapters are free to read. Link in bio.
