Kolme varttia. Alaspäin matkataittu hieman nopeammin. Saattaa mennä itsellä ehkäpä rankimpiin sporttailusuoritksiin tähän mennessä. Ja tuliaisiksi Sveitsistä tietenkin lapsille suklaata ja itselle kunnon maastopyörä, jota piti tietenkin heti käydä testaamassa, vaikka jalat oli ehkä vähän eri mieltä 😂

What a trip and what an event. I loved every minute of Trans Maderia......well maybe not every minute, I questioned my life choices and how I got there while riding down stage one 🤣🤣 @transmadeira wouldn't have been as good without meeting so many great people. Thanks for being part of it with me 🤙🙌🫶😇

Hymyilen 🩷

Isoimmat onnittelut mun kaksoselle, kohta taas seikkaillaan yhdessä🩷

@transmadeira, Autumn 2024, Day 3

Recently Madeira suffered from a large wildfire which, according to Reuters, took 11 days to get under control. Over 5000 hectares of forest was burnt.

Typically the third day is so-called hike a bike -day, including over 1000 vertical meter hike and hours long liaison from the idyllic and remote Valley of the Nuns to the northern side of the island. As a reward for this hike, you get to ride an exclusive secret trail behind the mountains that is only allowed to ride during this event + another amazing trail. For some, two trails for such effort might sound like a bad deal but… Once you get to ride it, you would do the hike again.

The wildfire, however, changed the plan for this edition of Trans Madeira: The route we were supposed to hike was now closed. Instead of hiking, we rode two stages and went to the Valley of the Nuns for a lunch- and maintenance break. From there, we were then transported closer to these two very special stages by bus. Bus ride went through the area which was burnt and I don’t have words to describe how it looked. Also, the smell of ash and smoke were still there.

It’s funny how you remember things so wrong. The two stages behind the mountains were way better than I remembered - especially the last one. Here’s a brief description of both:

Folhadal: Fast start in the rainforest-like place, small uphill, full speed down a snake-shaped pipe of dark, soft and grippy soil, more full speed turns on a bit harder soil and then more full speed riding. Pure euphoria. Best shared with friends like @himohenkka & @rallaajapepi. 2,05km / 415m.

Ginjas: Starts from a forest, perfect soil, leafs and fun off-camber turns. Eucalyptus forest, fast straight lines, a big jump, hectic road crossings, wonderful times. Also best shared with friends. 2,25km / 475m. Staff says this might be the best trail ever.

Day 3 is an absolute banger. Blessed.

The past (many) months have been exhausting, terrifying, and difficult, but equally beautiful all the same. I’m incredibly grateful to share this time in the universe with you, and am left with very few words which can express my gratitude. I don’t know what I did to deserve you, but I am thankful we found our way to each other. You’re grand. Thank you for loving me just as much when I am joyful, energetic, and proud, as when I am afflicted by self doubt, forgetfulness, and disconnection. I am not myself without you. Here’s to many more laughs, sunsets, adventures. 🥹
