☠️ we got so many eggs, jaja! 🫒 Aceituna- Not tuna, 🍣 (atún) there were so many fish drawn today, too 😂 Today in Spanish 1, students drew a dessert or food based on a description I said out loud. It was wicked funny. Of course, not all of us have tried (or even seen) all of these foods firsthand, and students were relying on their vast knowledge of food vocabulary (way beyond ingredients they can describe taste, temperature, flavors, cooking methods, dish presentation, meal time, etc). Students tried so hard to be precise based off of my somewhat misleading descriptions which made it even better. We did about 8 dishes and the results varied with which ones each of our students have been exposed to in the culinary world. 👨‍🍳 We discussed how to make some of these dishes at home and where we can find these already prepared postres locally at our grocery stores. My favorite part was hearing students say what they or their family believed an item to be (masa, torta, buñuelo) and being able to tell them that they are all correct, there are multiple names for items, just like in English. We also discussed the true origins of some dishes, like baklava, or batlawa in Arabic. Is it Greek? Is it Lebanese? Armenian? Turkish? Votes are still being accepted below 😂 A quick (analog/No tech) activity to synthesize a whole lot of vocabulary became a memorable class, for sure. 🍽️ ¡estoy super orgullosa de todos mis artistas!

Ghost spelling! All you need for this adorable activity are some white crayons and highlighters. Students randomly choose ten words from your current unit vocab list and write them in the target language. They pass the paper to a partner who highlights the word to revel it. They translate the word, or you can modify this for higher levels by making them use it in a sentence. Here are some fun words for our fans of spooky season: Ghost 👻 fantasma Pumpkin 🎃 calabaza Leaves 🍂 hojas Spooky 😱 Espantoso

Today at lunch the lang department discussed screen time and how long/often our students are on a computer for a class activity. The results might surprise you. While our students are required to have a device, we don’t always use it. Today’s review activities were stations activities, triangle puzzles, BINGO and modge kinoje 🦆 Thanks @french.in.hingham for teaching us the intense game of “modge kinoje” like musical chairs but with an inquisition in the target language 😂 all of these activities can be done without electricity and will not incite boredom - te prometo! Look at those smiles!

A, B and G block students ⭐️ standing with our @obeygiant prints and original FIFA world cup jersey designs after learning about the many forms of street art. For los jerseys de la Copa Mundial, students were given a prompt that they’ve been “hired by FIFA” to make an original design supporting their favorite country AND could use their jerseys as a platform to support a cause that they think deserves worldwide attention. Take a look at this awesome list of just a few of the things they supported: The environment Human rights Homeless people Access to art supplies Animal shelters Promoting self expression Mental health of athletes Mental health of children Veterans (And there were 40 more shown in the previous post!) Their Spanish descriptions of the symbolism of each element on their jersey were thorough and deeply reflective. I’m so proud. In the street art unit, we debated whether graffiti is art or vandalism and the factors that go into our decisions. We pondered other forms as art and researched new (to us) mediums and artists. Always my favorite way to end the year, especially this year because I announced that our field trip to NEW YORK CITY 🍎 @graffitihalloffame_nyc is actually happening - April 2027!! DM me for more info and click the link in my bio to enroll.

TJ (Belize ‘25), Claire, and Anna (Peru ‘26) wrote beautiful poetry and short stories in the @hinghamhighschool publication “The Outer Limits”. I’ve shared @claireee.wang Claire’s poem here, titled “Peru, el Sueño” which brought me right back to being surrounded by the wonder that is Peru. Claire, class of ‘29, speaks Chinese, French and Latin. We’re excited to see more of her success as she continues her career with us at HHS!@hingham.world.language @hinghampublicschools @acfennelly Congratulations to Ms. Fennelly on another beautiful publication and for giving students the space to share these pieces of themselves. If you snag a copy of the publication, check out “Tag, You’re It” @annapostyy and “The Soldier’s Ride” therealtjmeade both recent 2026 graduates and travel alumni. 🌎 ✍️

Para la entrada, nuestros chefs hicieron Causa acevichada (potatoes layered with chicken salad and avocado topped with ceviche peruano). Para el Plato principal cocinamos lomo saltado con arroz y papas. This was the most tender beef teriyaki dish I’ve ever had! Saltado means to jump, because of how we flick our wrists to flip the meat and veggies to make the food “jump” in the pan over the flame. Everyone’s dishes looked so professional! @ Refugio Restaurant cooking class at Tocuyeros Boutique Hotel, Cuzco, Peru @eftours

I can’t get over these fashion designs from Spanish 1B students for our “moda” unit. I am so impressed- and the Spanish description is just as good. How talented is Will?!

In Spanish 1B, students drew sketches and wrote detailed descriptions about their designs for their fashion project “I can design a new look”. They could include accessories, clothing, textures, shoes, patterns etc. This drawing is inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean and was made by Ben. I am so impressed!

Today I had the biggest surprise walk through my classroom door after school! Welcome home to Coast Guard Culinary Specialist 3rd Class Evelyn Gebhart, proud @hinghamhighschool grad from the Class of 2020 @evelyn_geb3 I have the most fond memories of Evelyn and her classmate and best friend @lkugs Lauren McGrath, whose memory we hold dear in our hearts. Today Evelyn told me about life being stationed in South Carolina, her 10+ trips to Panama, Mexico and Central America, and how “the most rewarding part of her job is knowing she is defending her country”. Alumni visits are very humbling, and it’s really rewarding to hear that they can connect their real world experiences to our Spanish class. ❤️ 💃🏻 Thank you for your service, Evelyn, and for keeping in touch.
