MOONSTRUCK 🌕

Monthly • Moody • Musings

Once a month, under the full moon, we start somewhere a little strange.

September’s opening line comes from our October Featured Poet, Manny @mannysaints who’ll join us Under a Haunted Moon on October 21:

Those seeds like thoughts did you bury, what bounty of dreams did you…

Read the line before yours.
Add one line.
Leave the next person somewhere to go.

Together, we’ll write the September poem one line at a time.

Stay moonstruck ✨

Last night. 💛

Thank you to everyone who showed up, helped out, shared the invitation, performed, supported an artist, had a conversation, or simply spent time with the work at the opening of What We Carry.

And thank you to everyone who couldn’t be there but was with us in spirit.

Seeing the gallery filled with people moving through the work, talking with artists, laughing, reflecting, asking questions, and sharing their own stories was a reminder of why spaces like this matter.

Thirty-five artists entrusted this exhibition with pieces of what they carry. Last night, those individual stories became part of a much larger community conversation.

We had drumming and rhythm, spoken word by Gary Francis of Hints of Healing, performance by Alana DaCosta of K-r8tive Uprising, impromptu open mic moments, music, dancing, and so many conversations I wish I could have captured all at once.

Thank you to Blue Sea Lotus Studio 33 and FeminAfrika, our performers, artists, volunteers, collaborators, community partners, everyone who lent a hand behind the scenes, and DJ One Star for helping keep the music moving.

Most of all, thank you to the artists of What We Carry for sharing your work, your voices, your memories, your questions, and pieces of what you carry with all of us.

And this was only opening night.

What We Carry continues through September 10 with more opportunities to gather, create, reflect, move, and talk together.

If you attended, please take a few minutes to complete the What We Carry questionnaire. Your feedback helps What’s Your Elephant™ understand the impact of this work, strengthen future programs, and show why community-centered arts experiences matter.
