Holiday Ghosts – Shoot for Peace

I spent many years in the South West of England, one county away from Cornwall, which is where Holiday Ghosts (@holidayghosts) hail from. It is a place often linked with magic (King Arthur and all that) and it seems fitting for the folksy (dare I say gothic-y?) indiepop the band makes. “Yesterday I looked for the darkest patch in the river / It asked me, ‘What would you do for gold?’” That’s from Shoot for Peace, which was one of my favourite songs from 2024, the year it came out on the Coat of Arms album. I still love it in 2026.

See link in bio for the full song.

Tasmin Stephens aka TTSSFU loves her Jesus and Mary Chain (like we all do) but adds her very own spices to the beautiful world of dark jangle pop.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far, we are a quarter of the way to our target already!

All proceeds go to @free_themnow in their campaign to aid Iranians having to flee for safety. The money raised will help Iranian people who need general living support such as food, accommodation and medical care. Charities like Free Them Now are currently overwhelmed with financial requests from Iranians whose lives are in danger, so any contribution big or small is very appreciated. Alternatively if you have a platform to share this on, then please help spread the word ✊🏽💕

My Top 3 gigs in August:

💥Getting tangled up with Klamp @klamp_love_you @greendoorstore what a wonderful noise
💥Absolute scenes with Prostitute @attempted.martyr @dust_venue
💥The very welcome return of the @holidayghosts @theprincealbertbrighton

Also an honorary mention to @the.prolapseband who were bloody great at the Edge of the Sea down the @concorde2 .
And I recommend giving @derry_mick a follow, who is going through his 7"s one day at a time, some v interesting and funny stories.

I am now 20 months into listening to every record I own and I'm still only on H. But at least I've got all those Holiday Ghosts albums to look forward to soon.

I feel your pain Mick! It's a winter month activity really. I'll pick up the pace soon.

Top tier week, with a 3 day weekend coming up. Here is a round up of the hottest gigs in Cornwall.

@Oracogan music is alchemical: part instinct, part ritual, and always conjured from the edges where life feels sharpest. She mixes haunted folk, psych rock, & a shadowy strain of country, building a realm where catharsis feels lush, mysterious & vital. She plays @cornishbank on Tuesday.

@holidayghosts bring their hip-shaking, head thrashing, raw & upbeat energy to @Fishfactoryarts
on Wednesday. Support from @low_harness

With a pure silken voice and lyrics that inspire and captivate, @Marthatilston has performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages and festivals, recorded and released several critically acclaimed
albums, catch her at @penleeparktheatre on Wednesday.

@Cornwallfolkfestival transforms Wadebridge into a 5 day celebration of song, dance, community and shared experience. With over 60 acts on show, from household names to up & coming talent it's set to be a great folk festival.

@tunes_in_the_park is back this weekend. Kicking off on Thursday with some South West favourites, followed by headliners @razorlightofficial @faithlessofficial & @jessiej plus so much more!

@Paularmermusic takes inspiration from bluegrass, country and folk. With heartfelt songs he plays @thebuttermarketredruth on Thursday as part of he @sundown__sessions

@Baysings13 & the locals play the end of summer party at @abovethebay_ on Friday. The group have had a busy summer, wowing crowds with their beloved combination of country and 70s rock.

@dilemmasfc blend folk-tinged layered harmonies, electro-pop pulse and grit-edged guitar motifs. After
smashing it at Alstock they play @thebeat_bodmin on Friday.

@daisymaemusic plays a rhythmic and fast paced fusion of jazz, soul and folk with social commentary
lyrics that focus on freedom. Catch her live at @stacks_bythesea on Saturday.
