🎶✨ Jazz workshop vibes at RBC ✨🎶

Our students spent the day diving into jazz standards, sharing ideas, and making music together alongside jazz students from across the Conservatoire — guided by our wonderful visiting tutor @amandawhitingharp!

So much learning, listening, and collaboration in one room. This is what being a student at @royalbirmcons is all about 💥

Forging a career as a musician can be challenging, particularly for young disabled music creators who face additional barriers to gaining professional playing experience. That’s why we created ‘Play with Paraorchestra.’

In this two-day workshop, a small group of early-career musicians rehearsed and performed alongside members of Paraorchestra, with time built in for one-to-one sessions on professional development and informal discussions on their creative practice.

Huge thanks to all of the brilliant young musicians who brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the space – follow the link in our bio to watch a full recap or listen to an audio-described version.

Video description: Paraorchestra musicians and young musicians taking part in workshops chat and practice together in a brightly lit rehearsal room. We also see them mingling and discussing in breakout spaces, smiling and talking animatedly. We hear from Ilana Tapper, a white woman in her early twenties with brown hair and glasses, and Charlie Cook, a white woman in her late teens with blond hair and glasses.

Big congrats to our harp students, who wrapped up the year with calm, thoughtful performances. 🌟

These lovely humans smiled through the nerves and put in a quiet mountain of work to make it all come together. 💐

Thanks to everyone who showed up, clapped supportively🙏

🤗What a day!🤗

On 9th April, we held our annual Renie Harp Competition here at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire — a day full of music, learning, and inspiration!

We were thrilled to welcome Alex Rider, who opened with a powerful lecture recital, "Henriette Renié: An Artist in Four Dimensions," before adjudicating the competition and leading an insightful masterclass packed with valuable feedback for our students.

Huge congratulations to our 2025 winner, Chloe Chousmer-Kerr! 🌟

So proud of all our harpists for embracing this opportunity to grow and reflect.

🎶 Our harp students at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire had a brilliant opportunity to rehearse alongside the world-class musicians of the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, the orchestra for Birmingham Royal Ballet and amongst the orchestral musicians was their own principal harp teacher, Rita Schindler @behind_the_harp .

Each student had the chance to play through various excerpts from standard ballet repertoire, gaining first-hand experience of performing in a professional setting. This unique collaboration provided invaluable insights and mentorship, helping our students prepare for their future careers in the industry.

Opportunities like these highlight our commitment to providing exceptional learning experiences—bridging the gap between education and the professional world!
