EUROPEAN SILVER MEDAL 🥈 Still processing the whole thing.

I was 4th out of the water, had the fastest transition and managed to run myself in to 2nd.

I honestly couldn’t have given it any more.

What a day.

It was a bit disruptive (to my pre race prep) having the kids there the day before. But having them there at the finish made up for that a million times. It was everything I’d hoped and dreamed it would be for us all.

I opted not to do the swim familiarisation (the day before) which I’d usually do, as it had been a long day already (for all of us) but the swim course looked pretty self explanatory - no currents to figure out.

I was getting slightly stressed that I didn’t fully understand the run course or transition area, but luckily I have amazing team mates that sent me lots of marked up photos and talked me through it until I felt confident.

One domino’s, two domino’s, three domino’s, finish!

I needed the swim to be 1000m not 1200m (re World) to be able to stay in contention with the fast swimmers. It was slightly long, but I had a great swim.

Luckily the run course was slightly long too - long enough for me to catch up the speedy swim girls ahead but not long enough for the speedy runner girls behind me to catch me.

In fact I only got silver by 1 second so the run course didn’t need to be a single step longer or shorter!

In Aquathlon you have your swimmers. And you have your runners. The swimmers aim to make a gap big enough to stay away in the run. The runners want to make sure the swimmers don’t get a gap that’s too big to run down. That’s Aquathlon. Well it is if you are an awesome swimmer. Or an awesome runner. I’m pretty solid at both. Not the fastest swimmer or runner so I have to work extremely hard at both. 🤪😝
