Nothing makes you question your own existence and achievements more than seeing someone at the end of their life.

You always think you'll have more time; just one more day to do that thing you've always wanted to do. When in reality, you actually have one less day. One less day on this Earth since yesterday. One less day to spend time together. One less day to follow your dreams.

I've always said I'd show my kids the world and here we are, my eldest is now 13 and only ever visited three countries. I, myself, am in my late 30s and only ever visited five!

So from this point forward I'm making a point to show my kids the world. Stay tuned.

I saw my first ever pine marten this morning, after seeing three roe deer and some pheasants, after spending yesterday evening outside watching bats and rabbits and listening to an owl, after seeing red squirrels in the woods the day before. It's strange how "alive" the mainland is after living in The Outer Hebrides, when the whole point of moving there was to be in the countryside.

Also, Happy 1st birthday to Beau!

• Not all classrooms have four walls •

We've been waiting patiently for our local playpark to reopen after it closed on the very first day of the school summer holidays. Yesterday at 9am was that day and my six year old could not wait to go and play. The wobbly steps were new to her, having never experienced them before; it took her a couple of goes but she finally did it. Learning doesn't have to happen inside a classroom between the hours of 9am and 3pm. It happens anywhere you want it to.

A great visit to Caledonian Railway. We went on a little steam train ride from Dun to Brechin and back. We had our own compartment and it felt a little bit like The Hogwarts Express. Unfortunately the old fashioned bus never ran which we were looking forward to but it was a great day out nonetheless.

Fun at Forfar loch yesterday.

I'm losing interest in Instagram lately. Everything is either reels or AI. I set up this new account to go back to the beginning; taking photos of things I find interesting and/or beautiful. I've really enjoyed spending more quality time with my kids now we are back living on the mainland but I just don't take many photos anymore which is not like me, yet it doesn't seem to bother me. Over ten years being on insta and posting constantly and I'm tempted to give it all up. Will see how it goes.

Show your kids where food comes from ~ we always have a great time visiting farms, meeting animals and seeing how our food grows; whether it's meat, grains, fruit or veg. Getting hands on is an added bonus which I will always encourage my kids to do, you never know which animal will be their next best friend!

I started the day off painting my youngest daughter's bedroom (pink!) and now I'm unpacking all the warm and cosy things for Autumn.

Follow the child. It seems such a simple thing but when your children are not in mainstream education it can be hard not to compare them to children that are. Everyone learns in their own time. We have one child who didn't speak until they were three years old while another was speaking in full sentences at nine months old. Some walk early, some don't. Some read at five years old (or younger) while some may be eight or nine. You know your child best.
