Eventful night.

- 295 • 650 single
- 270 • 595 x 3

- 260 • 573 x 4

Took a shot on squats tonight. Stayed in my midfoot and did not cook my lower back so I won tonight. Need stronger legs for future lifts.

Very proud to introduce two of our members as the strongest male and female powerlifters in the Central Region!! @dr_micro_lifter secured 1st place in the Female Raw Open 75kg category and @hookgrip9723 secured 1st place in the Male Raw Open 82.5kg category! Danielle finished strong with a 6/9 performance after some tough squats for a 365kg total! Tony went 9/9 and had a heck of a performance with a 12.5kg PR on deadlift and a huge 25kg PR on total! Congratulations to both of you!!

Training Block 3/4/24-4/1/24
.
This was a pretty insane block even though it ended on a bit of a whimper, simply got too greedy at the end. Not only did we make huge progress on everything but we got some great data points for next block. Squat speaks for itself, an absolutely huge volume PR, one of my strongest sets of all time.
I am also at an all time high confidence wise with deadlifts. U may be thinking to urself “but Zack u failed on deadlift cuz u suck ass and are bad.” First of all please don’t be mean 2 me. Second of all, my technique feels more consistent than it’s ever been, the only thing that needs to be adjusted is fatigue management with squats and backdown volume. This can be achieved by first of all not taking greedy intensity selections on the week 4 and decreasing average backdown set intensity to help my back recover enough for deadlift day.
Bench was the only thing I did not feel super confident on. I just haven’t felt strong on my primary bench and I believe that’s for 2 reasons: average backdown intensity being too high same as squats and my primer day being too difficult. My quartenary bench was relatively higher in volume because I felt like I needed to get more practice in but I’m planning on tapering that off more than anticipated this next block as well as adjusting the backdown intensity.
Overall I’m very pleased with this block even if we got too greedy. 1365 total for reps ain’t too shabby 😎 with smarter progression next block I’m anticipating some large numbers, time to lock in.

Bench: 325 lbs/147.5 kg x 5 (PR)

Squat: 470 lbs/ 213 kg x 5 (Week 3)

Training Block 1/22/24-2/26/24
.
Volume mode has been initiated and I’m kinda popping off fr. Huge volume PRs across the board and absolutely dialing the tech. Things that need to be worked on: 1) bench pauses were ass on week 4, need to clean that up 2) been widening my stance on squats more and that seems to not be the vibe for depth, need to move in. We keep building in the meantime
.
Squat: 451 lbs/205 kg x 7 (PR)
Deadlift: 512 lbs/232.5 kg x 6 (PR)
Bench: 308 lbs/140 kg x 7 (PR)

Meet Recap:
8/9 | Total: 565kg (7.5kg meet PR)
Qualified for CNats.

Squat:
192.5kg/424lbs

Bench:
122.5kg/270lbs (7.5kg meet PR)

Deadlift:
250kg/551lbs

Arrived at the competition 20 mins after weigh-ins started, but managed to have my best meet performance ever. @maulstrength programmed me to train straight into this meet and treat it like a usual SBD day (it worked). Gotta thank everyone in @washupowerlifting for the support, and a bigger shoutout to @hookgrip9723 for the perfect handling. Short/nonexistent off season bc of CNats mid April, but excited to compete one last time as an undergrad.

Cool vid creds to @jaidin.jackson

When I started Olympic lifting at the beginning of the year, I wanted to be just like @rb.pow my true inspiration and lift with no belt/knee sleeves. I added wrist wraps back in for bench because the combination of bench and cleans hurt my little wrists 🥲. Just wanted to see what I could really lift on my own without any major assistance and I’m super happy with how today went (especially considering I haven’t been eating/sleeping well all week because of some tooth issues). ALSO huge thanks to @tonyyleee @yjparker and @ememming for the spots/liftoffs. Don’t know how I would be able to lift without the embrace of three strong men.

I love The Lab, I love lifting, and I love my friends. Vibes are off the charts 😎
