When I was in middle school I had a coach completely change my shot. Right elbow tucked in. Left hand perfectly on the side. I felt very rigid. Robotic. No control over the ball. Overthinking like crazy. And of course, my shot did not improve that way.

Yes form plays a role. But what good is form and outdated shooting “tips” without an understanding of positive energy distribution up and towards the rim? We shoot with our whole body. We shoot with fluidity. And ideally all that allows us to shoot with confidence.

Stop putting young athletes in boxes 📦 stop trying to control everything 🎮 instead let’s help explore what works for the individual athlete🔋

Got this idea from @boris_boguslavsky! Had to try it myself and it was just as challenging as I had anticipated.

Similar to a tennis ball, the stick took my focus away from the basketball. This felt even more difficult because I had to do more than catch. I had to absorb the force from the stick and rebalance before I proceed. A lot more core was required.

Also having a fixated amount of time to transfer the ball from hand to hand forced me to trust my handle and instinctually throw up my off hand.

Y’all gotta give this one a try 😮‍💨

TAKING BASKETBALL BACK TO ITS ORIGINS 🏀✝️

This weekend in Charlotte with @hoopskrew wasn’t just about getting better at basketball.

We trained. We competed.
We went on prayer walks & wrote down goals.
We talked about confidence and identity.
We built Player Development Plans (PDP).
We challenged players to grow on and off the court.

James Naismith believed the sport could be used to develop the whole person: mind, body and spirit.

One phrase connected to his mission captures it powerfully:

“To win men for the Master through the gym.”

The gym can be a mission field. Basketball is your ministry.

🏀 Training develops the BODY.
💪 Confidence, character and leadership develop the PERSON.
🙏 Prayer, discipleship and the Gospel develop the SPIRIT.

Basketball wasn’t simply about developing better athletes. It was a vehicle for developing people. That’s my mission with re-introducing this next generation to the Origins of Basketball story. I’m so thankful to Bill, Blake, Ashleah & the whole @hoopskrew family for inviting me to be apart of this journey.

More than basketball. A higher purpose.

This is what it means to be a Basketball Missionary. 🏀🌎✝️

Participation.

Yeah you show up to class. Show up to practice. To games.

That’s cool and all. But are you really present? Or just there?

Here are 5 keys to unlocking your skills & hardwork in live games by shifting your mindset:

1. You can’t out perform your identity. Don’t wait for success to believe in yourself. Become don’t just Try. Your actions will follow your belief.

2. Trust your preparation. Tie your confidence to your work ethic, not whether your first shot drops.

3. Give yourself permission to make mistakes. Reframe turnovers, missed shots or bad games. Learn & grow, don’t let those define you.

4. Flip your self-talk. Become your own biggest fan, not biggest critic. Kill passive thoughts like “don’t turn it over.” Flood your mind with dominant cues: “Attack,” “Lock in,” “Next play.”

5. You align with your mindset: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t you’re always right” -Henry Ford

📍Charlotte Area! I’ll be running a camp & workshop 9/26 Saturday with @hoopskrew 🏀 I would love to spend that day training, teaching & encouraging you. Sign up with @hoopskrew

Synchronicity. Rhythm. Timing. Accuracy. Accountability. Dexterity. Coordination. Communication. Community.

You may be thinking I’m reaching. That’s it’s just a passing drill. That it’s not that deep.

If you look hard enough, it is that deep. Maybe it’s only as deep as you are serious.

Live in the details, and separate yourself as a result.

PlaymakHER 🔥

This clinic was about helping these girls see the game differently — understanding spacing, creating advantages on & off the ball, making decisions, and learning to trust themselves when the ball is in their hands.

Proud of the work these girls put in and grateful I got to spend a few hours helping them grow — as players and as young women.

Keep learning. Keep playing. Keep believing in yourself.

PLAYMAKHER. 🏀❤️

Shoutout to @dr.terrishighpower for the idea 💡 Had to test it out 🧪

This isn’t about pushing off your defender. The target is absorption and balance through or off of contact.

Live in the details.
