What do you get when you have a sock performing exorcists? You get a soxorcist! I’d say this book was pretty funny as you get the soxorcist trying to save a possessed sock.

🧦Short Story Review🧦

A Puppet Scorned by @horrorbong

What an unhinged 34 page story 🤣

This is a grotesque, erotic, and knitted take on a woman scorned by a man and her revenge. It also includes baby sock puppets and dead bug adornments.

A must read for anyone who wants a quick, unhinged horror fix 🙂‍↕️

Thank you to Jamie for the free story! 🥰

*REVIEW*

GUN POWDER & CLAM CHOWDER By Jamie Kort

Ok, WTF did I just read? 😂

I really enjoyed the humour that was present right from the off with this short story! Letting you know exactly what you were in for and not disappointing one little bit!

A fast paced, bizarre and wild short about a feline man with an electric cock, and a giant clam come tentacle clad sea monster.

It's fun. It's insane. It's batshit. And if you're familiar with Jamie's writing, it's so perfectly him! A one sitting, short, sharp blast of comic crazy! I had a ball with it, and may have cackled out loud on occasion!

"The giant, vaginal monstrosity waded through the ocean, overturning fishing boats as it came."

✨WAIT… just hear me out, ok?✨

Look, look, this was super weird ok? I’m not denying that, it’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever read. The group decided this would be a fun buddy read, something different, and it’s very short. I promise it’s worth checking out and it is a great GOOD FOR HER story!

Thanks to @horrorbong for agreeing the whole book chat group ( @magic.and.macabre @icedcoffreads @autumnreadsthrillsandspills @the.undercurrent.read @addies.all.booked @bondysbookshelf @ateliertaylor_ )could read a free ebook copy in exchange for an honest review!!!!🖤 #booksta #bookreview #erotichorror #bookstagram #bookish

The first slide probably needs no explanation. 🖤

As for slide two - I always feel a bit uncomfortable rating other people's work, so I will keep it very brief.

Craft-wise, there is absolutely nothing to criticize about any of the books or audiobooks I’ve read or listened to in recent weeks! 🙂

Here are my personal thoughts:

You Weren't Meant to Be Human by Andrew Joseph White: A very intense reading experience, but not for the faint-hearted. I just wished the horror elements had been explored a little more deeply.

Nothing Tastes as Good by Luke Dumas: A book that is highly relevant to today's society. I couldn’t connect with the characters, though.

Habits of the Sea by Shea Ernshaw: I almost made it to the end, but I just couldn't finish it. The unlikeable FMC and the heavy trad-wife vibes really put me off. 😐

The two short stories A Puppet Scorned and Gun Powder & Clam Chowder by Jamie Kort completely caught me off guard. I have never read anything quite like them before. I laughed so much, and honestly, found myself asking, "what the f*** am I reading?!" more than once – but I regret nothing! 🙂

I genuinely don’t know how I’m supposed to explain that I just gave a book about erotic sock puppets 5 stars, but here we are 🧦🧶

A Puppet Scorned by @horrorbong is SO weird, completely unhinged, and somehow way darker than I expected. The sock and knitting puns were absolutely killing me, but underneath all the absurdity there’s an actual horror story happening.

And yes… in this book, knitting is how the sock puppets have sex, so the graphic knitting slide felt necessary 😂

This was also our latest The Unreliable Narrators buddy read, which honestly feels like the most fitting possible group to experience this level of puppet chaos with.

Apparently erotic sock puppet horror is a genre I’m into now. Who knew 💁🏼‍♀️

Thank you so much to Jamie Kort for blessing our group with an e-copy of this book. We have been talking about it for days 🧦😂

QOTD: What’s the weirdest book premise you’ve ever read and ended up loving?

Another four star read? This was fun, this was weird, it was funny too, and very clever. Nothing I could’ve ever imagined. It really made me think of those Sally the Pumpkin Queen books and Eraserhead all in one and 18+. I think other fans of weird fiction and horror will like this short read—only 34 pages!

Thank you so much @horrorbong for giving me the opportunity to read!!
