In my State of the University address this week, I highlighted the impact of CUNY CARES, a pilot program designed to help students at our three Bronx colleges access health care, mental health treatment, food and housing assistance. Three years after its launch, CUNY CARES now reaches 7,500 students and initial results are promising:

✔️ An 18% increase in SNAP enrollment between 2023 and 2025
✔️ A 17% decrease in unmet mental health needs
✔️ A 12% decrease in food insecurity
✔️ A 5.3% decrease in housing instability

Now, thanks to a $900,000 investment from @robinhoodnyc, @cunyedu is expanding the public benefits hub to two more campuses, the first step toward bringing it to all seven of its community colleges by 2028, starting with @queensboroughcc_cuny.

March. Roll. Cheer. Create. Advocate. Celebrate! That was the theme of the Disability Pride NYC event last Sunday, 10/18. Guttman's Assistant Director of AccessABILITY Services Luis Gutierrez and student Samuel Hasson were thrilled to join colleagues across CUNY campuses to use our collective power and advocate for disability rights.

What a journey! ❤️ Over three performances at our Hostos Repertory Theater, QUARTER RICAN: A Hip-Hop Musical took us on a heartfelt, humorous story that mixed ballads, hip-hop, and Caribbean rhythms to remind us of the importance of family and staying connected to our roots.

A huge GRACIAS to @gabriel_diego_hernandez and Arabelle Luke @airloombeats for sharing this beautiful experience with our Hostos family, as well as to everyone who joined us!

A look inside the lab with our client Selim Tlili with Sketching for Science!🔬

Now a professor at Hostos Community College, Selim led students in a hands-on challenge to design and build miniature landfills using limited materials with the goal to keep contaminants from leaking into the surrounding environment when it “rained.”

The activity brought environmental science to life through collaboration, creative thinking, and problem-solving. We’re proud to highlight Selim and the engaging learning experiences he creates!

Throwing it back to last year’s 25th Anniversary Kick-Off, when our partners at @cuny_fatherhood at @hostoscollege joined us to give back and shared what Good+’s support has meant to the expecting parents in their program.

For 25 years, we’ve been proud to work alongside partners like CUNY Fatherhood Academy to make sure parents have access to the essential goods they need to feel prepared and confident.

And as we approach our 25th birthday on October 28th, we’re celebrating all month long. Stay tuned for more anniversary throwbacks and celebrations, leading up to A Very Good+ Night of Comedy on November 17!

POV: The documentary is about to EAT. 🎬🍿

Meet Jess McKay, MSW, Director of the CUNY CARES Public Benefits Hub, practicing for her Netflix documentary about how CUNY CARES, NYC DSS, and the Mayor’s Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) helped over 1,000 CUNY students keep their SNAP benefits. 👏🏽

It’s what happens when technology, public partnerships, and student-centered support come together to make a real impact.

🎓 The Public Benefits Hub is an online tool that helps CUNY students check their eligibility for benefits like SNAP and connect with resources to apply.

✅ Want instant eligibility results? Opt in to share additional information to get your results!
