NEW BLOG POST
———
As it gets greener outside, we’ve rounded up some (mostly) local queer plant/flower IG accounts to give you some plant inspo for INSIDE too. As a bonus, a few of these accounts also sell plants, so you can both swoon and shop at once.
Link in bio for the list of the folks pictured above (+ more!)

It’s my birthday month and I am launching a plant auction with 100% of the proceeds going to @lgbtyouthline so for the rest of the month, you’ll be able to bid or donate! Visit my story/highlights for details.

A bit on why I am doing this:

In the last decade, this birthday is one of the few times I am happy for it to come along. For the better part of my life, I was closeted in different parts of my life. Coming into the end of my 30s I finally feel free to be who I am. This comes with a tremendous amount of privilege and I am very lucky to have this experience, to celebrate my queerness fully and proudly. My hope is that all youth experience this and have the resources to do it safely.

This said, my coming out process was tumultuous and I called youth lines for support. It made me feel less alone and helped me during a time when it was very very dark. Without this type of peer-support, it’s really hard to say if I’d be here today.

Sharing my story on here is more than an over-share, lol. It’s my hope that it’ll help, somehow. For both queer and heterosexual folx who have reached out saying my posts have helped, thanks for reading & the dialogue. This gives me more motivation to continue sharing this part of my life.

Calling on all the communities I am a part of to make this as big as it can be. #LeadingWithLove

Disclaimer: I make no apologies for flooding your feed for the rest of the month with this content 😈

RAFFLE CLOSED! Generously donated by @harpersgardenc, I am raffling off this variegated Whale Fin Sansevieria. All money raised will be given to Shayla @tiaplanta. I was so moved by her work.
After seeing people struggle to financially meet their basic needs and not being able to afford the luxury of spending money on houseplants, Shayla created an event to give away FREE houseplants.
"The most common comment that I heard when someone picked up a plant from me was, 'I’m smiling under my mask'. Just so that you know, I was also smiling under my mask."
Go check out Shayla's Instagram page to read more about the free houseplants event she made possible. ✊🏽
Shayla is currently in the process of opening up her own brick and mortar studio and plant shop. All money raised will go towards this dreamy project that is an Afro-Latina woman-owned venture! ✨
Tickets to enter the raffle will be $5 for one entry/$10 for three entries like last time! Contest open to Ontario residents only (I am a little wary of shipping to farther places this late in the fall).
You can enter the raffle by e-transfering to leighkiyoko@gmail.com (you can also use PayPal). Please include your name and IG handle in the entry. Winner announced Monday! Thank you in advance for sharing this and tagging your friends! 🌱

I am so jealous of these luscious leaves!
I was gifted a cutting with 1 leaf sometime ago. My nephew accidentally bumped it. And my 1 leaf fell off 😱 It was a very sad day for me. Looking at this very full plant makes me happy!

People say cats are rude assholes.
People also say cats take after their owners.
They’re not wrong.

Can anyone identify this?

It started growing out of one of our flower pots. We transplanted it to see how big it could get.... jokes on us it's HUGE. 🌱
