I’m enjoying jumping back into the writing game! Loved chatting with the team at @houstonmetdance about their upcoming 30th Anniversary Gala! Thirty years is a lifetime in the dance sector, and they are still fulfilling their mission of dance education, open dance classes, and choreographic initiatives. Congrats on the milestone! CW: SA; word mention and brief description of impact.

🪻FREE Workshop in October, generously funded and sponsored by @dancesource. Grateful to facilitate greater safety for survivors and those that love them.

🪺This workshop was created with body relationships and challenges of professional dance artists at the center. However, the tools, advocacy, and community healing— is for all. If you feel like you’d benefit, please join.

🧜‍♀️ RSVP: Enrollment link (for supplies estimates) is in my bio.

Thank you for making it here. What happened to you is not your fault. You don’t have to carry it alone anymore. You deserve love too.

“Where you are when you don’t know where you are is one of the most precious spots offered by improvisation. It is a place from which more directions are possible than anywhere else”
-Nancy Stark Smith , SCDT Article

Thank you to @posthtx and @edenplant.co for helping us make this possible!

WORKSHOP INFO:
Working from a basic premise that dance is an ever-shifting, unfixed practice of encountering ourselves being on the way while making our way, we'll use this workshop format to play, tune, and sometimes grapple with multiple tools and strategies for doing, being and making in the continuous present. We'll start with simple, non-theoretical strategies for nonstop speaking and moving as a practice of getting closer to the material of ourselves and the structures of our thinking. Through the accumulation of different tasks, conditions, and micro scores, that deal with time, space, place and others, we’ll work on forming, amplifying, and articulating the complex ecology of ourselves in practice. This workshop is open to all folks of all disciplines who are willing to move and speak a lot (and sometimes write) as modes of creative practice as well as have a willingness to sometimes not know what is being produced from it while still sustaining desire to keep going. (Please bring something to write on and with.)

This is what a SUNDAY in my life looks like ( and yes for those who know that I’m a PK, I definitely attend to church virtually. I have to have my word and my time with God, but I do that daily.😉🙏🏾) ……… but needless to say all work and no play makes Dwayne a Dull Man 🤷🏾‍♂️. ✨ Throwback to WIND ✨

On February 23, we witnessed magic at WIND—an evening where art, music, and resistance intertwined. 🌬️🎶

Today, we revisit the mesmerizing performance of @amadoespinozamusic , whose sounds defy borders and summon the spirit of unity.

🌬️Every note told a story; every rhythm, a journey.

Through daily classes, movement research and workshop sessions this week experiments and explores liminal spaces: the space between narrative and abstraction, the space between visual image and moving image, the space between nature and technology, and the space between different artistic disciplines. The week aims to spark a renewed interest between humans and the natural world in an effort to inspire a deeper connection to nature, fostering appreciation for its beauty and fragility. In addition, this workshop aims to contribute to a broader dialogue on the importance of ecological awareness and sustainability.
