We’re thrilled to release To Ruin Him Without Cause, a collection of remixed songs from our last album, From Roving About The Earth. An incredible group of artists we admire in noise, hip-hop, industrial, and techno warped, edited, sampled and reinterpreted our songs to take them to some incredible new places. Mordant Arrow’s dark acid techno, Madam Data’s uncompromising noise and Manikineter’s industrial hip hop are a few examples that give a sense of the breadth of sounds presented here. Listen on Bandcamp where you can also get one of the limited holographic cassettes. 1. How Wings Are Attached to the Backs of Angels (Caged Remix)

2. The Messiah Draws Near (Mordant Arrow’s Sulphuric Saviours Mix)

Antipop Consortium was one of the most inventive underground crews in the early 2000’s. APC formed in the fall of 1997 and consisted of three vocalists (High Priest, Beans, and M. Sayyid) who came from the New York street poetry scene, with producer Earl Blaize in the background. After a series of cassette only releases on their own label Antipop Recordings, and some underground singles, the Ark 75 label released the group’s debut album “Tragic Epilogue” in 2000. #hiphop #undergroundhiphop #independenthiphop #antipop #nowplaying

New exhibition opening for the next crawl! Sound of the City is an immersive audio installation and listening environment by NYC born artist and composer Hprizm, whose practice spans a wide array of genres, including music, performance and multimedia installations. He is a co-founder of the seminal hip-hop group Antipop Consortium, an experimental collective known for their lyrical approach to electronic music. As a composer, his works have been presented at venues such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, MoMA PS1, the Walker Museum, the New Museum, SXSW and CalArts. Hprizm: Sound of the City is organized by Pioneer Works and adapted for presentation at Wood Street Galleries by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. The original presentation was made possible, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in Partnership with the City Council, as well as the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New Yorks State Legislature. Sensational, 2007 High Priest, 2003 M. Sayyid, 2003 from the series The Process, out now on @light____years Experimental / abstract / alternative hip-hop in the early 2000s was part of NYC’s sonic landscape—I listened to it as naturally as Gang Gang Dance, Black Dice, or Animal Collective. They existed as one porous ecosystem, held together through overlaps—venues, labels, audiences. Sensational, Dälek, Antipop Consortium were pushing hip-hop into abstraction. At the same time, groups like Gang Gang Dance, Black Dice, and Animal Collective were working across genres and dissolving their boundaries from the other direction: ritualistic, noisy, loop-based, rhythm coming apart. I photographed Sensational, M. Sayyid, and High Priest—they had to be part of The Process Book—and I was lucky enough to take their portraits, and to work with Dälek on several concerts for The Process exhibitions. @daleknwk

8 years of my “Jazz, Hip-Hop and Urban Experimentalism” seminar at CalArts. So proud of our students and incredibly grateful to every single one of these remarkable, trailblazing guest artists. For so many reasons, this is a class that could only ever exist at CalArts. Made possible with generous support from the Provost’s Office, The Herb Alpert Foundation, and The School of Music.

In my recent trip to London I sat down for an in-depth conversation with the profound @daddydarkrdc During the interview (Coming soon @alongwayfromtheblock podcast) I was blessed to have @eddie_otchere shoot the interview. Eddie is Britain’s foremost chronicler of Black British culture. It was also a blessing bringing those two great artists together for the first time.
