goodbye salomé!

i developed a strange and unique relationship with this play and this role — to say i’m heartbroken our time together is over is an understatement. but then, i know it isn’t over really. the interrogation of my own history of religious psychosis and the experiences i have endured as the queer, transsexual firstborn child of rural evangelical “home missionaries” i underwent to understand this character and this play will continue to affect my artistic and cultural work for the rest of my life. the bridging from girl to woman i experienced in enacting this text will guide my steps in perpetuity. and i have more to create and share inspired by this experience; much more.

i have a million thank you’s to give, but most of them have been inked and delivered in private. they are all most sincere.

i have a million more things to say, but i will let future work say it for me. 💋

so long to our sweet and fair summer of SALOMÉ ❤️‍🔥 funny story: earlier this year I took a spontaneous trip to milwaukee to hand deliver my hard drive to our @tala444real editor, and I stopped in a bookshop and skimmed a book called sextrology that named salomé as a character from literature associated with my sun sign, aquarius. I also named my film, tala, and its main character after an astrological and tarot association. the book also said the number seven is associated with aquarius because of salomé’s dance of the seven veils, and I always pull seven tarot cards when I do readings for myself, for no reason other than it felt right. and during the last weekend of shows a green uno card with the number seven wound up on our dressing room floor. I’ve always loved the story of salomé — it was the first opera I watched with my music school friends, a decade ago, a whole career ago, a whole life ago. so when I saw the casting call for this show in april, I knew there was something special in the stars. I cannot thank the cast, crew, and theatregoers enough for this experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better first play to be in. till the next show, xoxo your favorite party girl and roman ambassador 💋
