HSO CL1! We had a really great week: super chill and great sounding section, two awesome and collaborative soloists, a new coffee spot unlocked, and numerous silly faces from stage

Roses have been part of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild’s Symphony Ball tradition since its very beginning in 1964, when the first 22 debutantes carried bouquets of red roses during their formal presentation.

More than six decades later, the tradition continues with the selection of Arabella, the official rose of the 2026 Symphony Ball, personally chosen by Ball Chairman Samantha Bentley. This exquisite soft buttercream rose, whose name means “Beautiful Like a Star,” beautifully complements this year’s theme, A Starlight Symphony.

Tomorrow evening, Saturday, October 17, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild will proudly present 22 young women at the 2026 Symphony Ball.

Presenting the 2026 Symphony Ball Debutantes:

Miss Ella Grace Bray

Miss Mary Marcella Covington

Miss Campbell Mayes Cox

Miss Eleanor Masie Cunha

Miss Lila Rose Dixon

Miss Mary McKenzie Ellett

Miss Anna Elizabeth Henrich

Miss Mary Mae Howard

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to 2026 Symphony Ball Chairman Samantha Bentley and her dedicated committee for their extraordinary efforts in bringing this cherished Guild tradition to life.

May the evening be filled with grace, beauty, and memories that will last a lifetime!

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be a vocalist on the debut of Southern Rock Symphony Sessions alongside @rickbrantley in Huntsville Alabama at the Huntsville Symphony. So much beautiful coming to this show ahead, and it was fun to be a steward for these sad southern gypsy men. I love rock n roll ⚡️

Celebrating Kathryn Jones!

The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild is delighted to recognize Kathryn Jones, our nominee for the Katherine & Richard Lester Emerging Arts Contribution Award.

Established in 2015, this award recognizes an individual age 40 or younger who is relatively new to the Huntsville/Madison County arts community and whose volunteer contributions have made a meaningful impact. Sponsored and administered annually by the Community Ballet Association, the award celebrates emerging leadership and encourages continued involvement and service within our local arts community.

Music has been an important part of Kathryn’s life since childhood. She began singing in a children’s choir at just four or five years old and continued performing throughout school and college, including years of choir, musical theater and a cappella performance, as well as opportunities to sing and serve throughout the United States and abroad.

Since moving to Huntsville in 2021, Kathryn has continued to share her love of music with our community. She regularly sings and helps lead worship at Southwood Presbyterian Church, has performed at weddings and community events, and sang the National Anthem at a Huntsville Havoc game.

Kathryn joined the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild in 2024 and quickly became an involved and enthusiastic member. She helped with our Young Artists Auditions and served as Silent Auction Chair for the 2026 Crescen-Dough Auction. This year, Kathryn continues her service as Co-Chair of the Guild’s Communications Committee, generously sharing her creativity, talents and time in support of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and the Guild’s mission.

Kathryn will be recognized at the awards celebration on Wednesday, September 30 at 6:00 p.m., the same evening as the Virginia Hammill Simms Awards.

We are so proud to have Kathryn represent the HSO Guild and delighted to celebrate both her lifelong love of music and the contributions she is already making to Huntsville’s arts community.

Congratulations, Kathryn!

We are delighted to celebrate Patti Thornton, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild’s nominee for the Virginia Hammill Simms Award!

Established in 1967, this distinguished award recognizes individuals whose volunteer service has made a meaningful contribution to the arts in the Huntsville/Madison County community.

Patti has been a cherished member of the HSO Guild since 2008, generously giving countless hours of her time, talents, and heart in support of the Symphony and the Guild’s mission. Over the years, she has served on numerous committees and in many leadership roles, including 2017 Symphony Ball Chairman, 2022 Silver Tea Chairman, and HSO Guild President (2019–2020). She continues to serve wherever she is needed, always sharing her experience, enthusiasm, and kindness with the Guild.

This year’s Virginia Hammill Simms Award celebration will be held September 30 at The Ledges.

Congratulations, Patti! We are so grateful for all you have given to the HSO Guild, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, and the arts in our community.
