One month at Howard University. 🤍

Leaving Toronto and coming to The Mecca was one of the biggest transitions of my life, but every day I’m reminded why I took this leap.

Still learning. Still growing. Still dancing. Still becoming.

One month down, and four incredible years to go. ❤️💙

Forever grateful for everyone who helped me get here and continues to cheer me on from home.

Howard University, you already have my heart.

Breathe. Move. Become.

When Sydni D. Brown began imagining a different path for emerging dancers, she drew upon the training, mentorship and sense of possibility she found at Howard.

Now, the 2026 Howard graduate is building that path herself.

Through Exhale Dance Company, Brown is creating a bridge between collegiate training and professional life — a space where emerging dancers can continue developing their artistry, confidence and community as they navigate what comes next.

Her story is also a story about what happens when education becomes agency: when students leave Howard prepared not simply to enter an industry, but to reimagine it.

A year in motion. A program on the rise.

The Howard University Dance Program, housed within the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts’ Department of Theatre Arts (DoTA), has marked an extraordinary year of artistic growth, interdisciplinary collaboration, cultural engagement, and national visibility.

From masterclasses and creative residencies to public performances, study abroad experiences, and student choreography presented on prominent stages, the work reflects a program defined by rigor, creativity, and momentum.

At Howard, dance is not only practiced; it is shaped, shared, and seen.
