Installing Twilight at Olana @hudsonrivermuseum the past 2 days. This piece was originally created for the cover image @antiquesmag for the Olana issue. I’ve been on the national advisory board for the preservation of @olanafredericchurch for 15+ years and fabricated one of Olana’s interior walls with my version of Twilight in the Wilderness. The installation will be up for 1 year and the space to the left of the work is waiting for a Blakelock. Love being next to @rigoberto_torres60 #hiriampowers and #georgesegal. #fredericchurch #valeriehegarty #olana

Activism doesn't only happen at protests. Art has always been a way to tell the truth, spark conversation, and bring people together to create change ✌🏽

Join us and @hrmjuniordocents for a hands-on workshop led by @reizckproject , a humanitarian arts initiative supporting communities affected by conflict 🌎

Using everyday materials and collaboration, we'll build something one-of-a-kind and talk about how our perspectives shape our outcomes 💯

No experience needed, just curiosity and a passion for making a difference!

🗓️ Saturday, November 7
🕙 10am–2pm (free lunch included!)
📍 Hudson River Museum, Yonkers

Some of our favorite scoops happen outside the shop. ❤️

Ask our founder, Ellen Sledge, about her favorite places to serve Penny Lick Ice Cream, and she’ll tell you it’s all about the people, the energy, and being part of something special right here in Westchester.

1️⃣ Hudson River Museum Amphitheater Events — Ice cream, live entertainment, and those perfect nights along the Hudson.

2️⃣ Armonk Outdoor Art Show — Incredible local creativity paired with some seriously good ice cream.

3️⃣ Westchester Soccer — Cheering on our hometown team and keeping the fans fueled, one scoop at a time.

For Ellen, it’s never been just about selling ice cream. It’s about showing up, supporting our community, and being part of the moments that bring people together.

And if there’s ice cream involved? Even better.

Where should Penny Lick pop up next? Drop your favorite Westchester events below!

@marianevelson and me with the @hudsonrivermuseum group and the @nyugrey group at the Nevelson-Walinska birthday celebration. Anna Walinska and Louise Nevelson would be delighted to see so many accomplished women talking art and sharing a meal.

In 2024, I created a painting titled Untitled (White Horse), featuring @taylor_williams.3 lying across the back of one of his horses as it stood so beautifully, strong and still. I chose to paint the horse white and used over 100 sheets of 98% pure silver leaf to create the background. The finished piece became one of my favorite paintings of that year and eventually found its forever home in the permanent collection of the @artbridgesfoundation.

Two years later, I’ve finally decided to create a follow-up to that painting, but this time featuring a woman standing alongside a breathtaking black horse. Its coat, deep, rich and almost silky, will stand in striking contrast to a brilliant, mirror-like silver leaf background. There’s something special about returning to an idea years later and discovering an entirely new story waiting to be told. Here’s a little sneak peek of what’s to come.

At our September birthday month celebration of #LouiseNevelson and #AnnaWalinska I asked each woman to update us on a highlight of the past year or a new project. My highlight was joining the Board of @hudsonrivermuseum.

@marianevelson and I joined HRM director @masha_tee , head of curatorial @lvprosewriter , and long-time HRM supporter Karen Meyers for a confab about the museum’s upcoming Nevelson exhibition.
