POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Arundika Weersekera, founder of @huesofbatik is our latest podcast guest, sharing the history of Batik in Sri Lanka (with some surprising pindrop moments), the mindfulness in the creative process and how she is bringing it to the world. She will be in London in September 2026 teaching a workshop at The Museum of The Home in conjunction with @selvedgemagazine.

Bio,

Arundika Weerasekera is an architectural designer, textile artist, founder of Hues of Batik and, most importantly, an enormous creative at heart.

“With an MArch in Architecture from the University of Manchester, my journey with batik actually started as a little passion project with my mum. Somewhere between architecture, fashion, zero-waste experiments, exhibitions and a lot of playing around with batik, I slowly realised there was so much more I wanted to do with this craft.

Over the years, I’ve exhibited internationally, represented the Batik Guild in the North of England, developed an experiential batik kit as part of my patent-pending portable batik creation system, and conducted workshops sharing the craft with others.

And somewhere along the way, my two worlds finally came together. Today, through Hues of Batik, I explore how traditional Sri Lankan batik can live within contemporary interiors, from textiles and cushions to bespoke wall panels and architectural applications.

Basically, architecture + batik + a slightly obsessive need to keep creating things”

Sri Lankan Batik : Wax, Cracks and Turning Craft into a Global Flex. Our podcast resumes after Summer recess, and guest Arundika Weersekera joins Dee to share how we can all turn our hands to this beautiful artform. Arundika is the founder of Hues of Batik and she brings us the story of Batik in Sri Lanka, the steps in the creative process and how she is bringing it to us all through workshops and try-it-at-home-yourself kits.

She is a true creative and a great friend of Kalukanda House - workshop dates will be released very soon. If you are in London in September, join Arundika at The Museum of The Home (in partnership with Selvedge), where you can join her batik workshops and leave with your very own creations.

Tune in on Spotify, Apple or your favourite podcast platform. Links in bio and comments.
