See you Thursday at @sfmoma for the Eternal Echoes II: The Kiki Ball!! Hosted by @sirjoq & presented in partnership with DMT’s Liberation Academy. Which categories will you walk in? 😍💅 CATEGORIES OTA = Open to all Sign up at the ball or in advance at DanceMissionTheater.org. 1. RUNWAY- “CASTRO STREET REBEL” (OTA) Inspired by the rebellious spirit of San Francisco’s Castro — where queer nightlife, leather culture, street fashion, sexual liberation, and unapologetic self-expression helped transform the city into a global symbol of LGBTQ+ freedom. Take us back to the casual cool of 1980s Castro — then make it your own for today. This is NOT a red-carpet category. We want the person walking down Castro Street after leaving the bar.
The rebel grabbing a coffee the next morning.
The nightlife icon heading to the next party.
The queer who knows exactly who they are and doesn’t need permission to show it. THE LOOK Your foundation should be 80s Castro casual: * White T-shirt * Jeans * Boots * Bandana How you interpret the rest is up to you. MAKE IT MODERN. We want to see how today’s queer generation would walk through the Castro in the spirit of the 1980s. Your bandana is REQUIRED.The bandana is not simply an accessory — it is a piece of queer history. The hanky code, also called the bandana code or flagging, became particularly associated with queer leather and cruising culture in the 1970s & 1980s, including San Francisco. Color communicated a particular sexual interest, while the pocket communicated role. Choose the color that represents what you’re into and FLAG IT CORRECTLY. DO YOUR RESEARCH! GRAND PRIZE: $300 2. SEX SIREN – “The Spirit of Seduction” (OTA) Inspired by the sensuality, nightlife glamour, erotic liberation, and magnetic confidence cultivated within San Francisco’s queer history. Your look should be inspired by Dore Alley, Folsom Street Fair, The SoMa, Burlesque, Kink, Leather & Lace. Bring seduction, charisma, tease, confidence, and power. This category celebrates ownership of the body, sensual freedom, and the beauty of queer desire without shame. This is not just about sex appeal — it is about commanding the room with your energy. GRAND PRIZE:

🌎❤️ THANK YOU FOR FIVE YEARS OF AFRO LATINX! What a celebration of music, culture, art, and community! The 5th Annual AFRO LATINX Festival brought together artists, neighbors, and friends from across the Bay Area and beyond to celebrate the connections between Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the African Diaspora. A huge thank you to Los Rakas, Guanaco, Bayonics, ELENAH, Gina Madrid, and Kulcha Latino for bringing their music, energy, and cultural perspectives to the stage. To our visual artists Gustavo Castillo, Marcos Odara, Alexis LeeAnn, and Yadira Cazares, thank you for bringing another dimension of storytelling and cultural expression to this year's celebration. Special thanks to Tato's for welcoming our community to Third Street for an incredible pre-show gathering, and to Yrak Saenz, DJ Leydis, and Batuki for filling the evening with music before the concert even began. Amazing work by Gina Madrid hosting this event and sharing her music! We're deeply grateful to our funders and supporters: Creative West, the National Endowment for the Arts, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, San Francisco Community Challenge Grants Program, San Francisco Arts Commission, Office of Economic & Workforce Development, Zellerbach Foundation, and San Francisco Human Rights Commission. Your support helps us continue creating accessible, culturally rooted programming that brings artists and communities together. And most importantly, THANK YOU to everyone who showed up, contributed, danced, listened, connected, and celebrated with us. AFRO LATINX has always been about more than a concert. It's about recognizing the histories we share, celebrating the cultures that make us distinct, and creating opportunities for those connections to grow right here in Bayview Hunters Point. Five years in, and the conversation continues. 🌍🥁 With gratitude from La Fauna Music and the Ruth Williams Bayview Opera House.
