[#WHLive2026 recap: the human edition]

My plan going into #WHLive2026 in Orlando was to post daily video updates—leveling up from last year’s daily posts.

That didn’t happen.

Why? Because I got busy connecting with humans—our attendees and the @workhuman team who make this event what it is. I loved the casual conversations, meeting new people, and reconnecting with friends (and even had a chance to grab lunch with relatives who happened to be in the area).

The experience was phenomenal: meaningful conversations, powerful insights, and plenty of moments to share what the Workhuman platform makes possible (more on all of this soon—my Product Evangelist duties don’t disappear 😉).

More than anything, I left with a full heart. 💜

The best part of Workhuman Live isn’t the content. It’s the humans.

Continua acompanhando a nossa cobertura.

Roll credits. 🎬

I put together this reel from last week’s TalentNet Live event at SXSW with a little inspiration from Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. (I’m a super-fan of both 🤓).

This period of AI we’re in, plus David Armano’s brilliant keynote, is giving me steampunk vibes.

Featuring some of the sharp minds and good people who help make this community what it is:
David Armano (new, but significant), Jess Miller-Merrell, Jackie Clayton, Jim Durbin, Steve Dougherty, John Baldino, Bryan Chaney, Allie O’banion, Brandon Amoroso, Elaine Orler, Jeff Vandiver, Carrie Corbin, Amanda Buffington … and yes, me too.

What I love about TalentNet Live is that it never feels forced. It is smart people, real conversations, practical ideas, laughs, and the energy you only get when recruiters, marketers, operators, and talent leaders are all in the same room.

Thanks to everyone who showed up, shared ideas, and made it memorable.

Thank to our sponsors, AMS, SCALIS, and Match2

Thanks to KMFA Austin for hosting us!

Catch us in Chicago June 1st and Dallas Nov. 6th: https://TalentTexas.com

How cool is this??

Its all in the prompts 😎

Hot take: HR and Talent Acquisition should NOT be the same team. 🔥

My dude John Baldino called it out during our convo at Transform:
Way too many companies still combine HR and TA, treating it as one giant’ people’ department.
And honestly? It’s a mess.

Here’s the truth no one wants to admit:
👉 HR is about protecting the business.
👉 TA is about growing the business.

🔹 HR is about building and protecting the people infrastructure — compliance, benefits, employee relations, culture.
🔹 Talent Acquisition is about growth and strategy — finding, attracting, and securing the best talent for the future.

Different goals. Different mindsets. Different muscles.
When you force them into one function, you burn out your teams, over-rely on tech, and wonder why you’re hiring fast but not hiring well. 🚩

Want actually to fix your people problems?
👉 Separate HR and TA. 👉 Build specialists, not generalists. 👉 Stop treating talent like paperwork.

The companies that get this right are the ones that will survive the next wave of change.
The rest? Good luck catching up.

When you combine them into one “catch-all” team, you lose the specialization each function desperately needs.
You start relying too much on tech to fix problems, like volume, instead of focusing on quality.
You miss the opportunity to be proactive about your people strategy instead of just reacting to paperwork and fires.

Organizations that separate HR and TA — and treat them both like strategic specialties — win in the long run.

It’s time to stop expecting one team to be everything to everyone.
Respect the craft. Respect the difference.
