Growing Pains
.
I grew up in a familial culture that never really knew how to smile for the camera, was always self conscious and reluctant to pose - at least that’s how I fell into adulthood. I bought my first proper non-phone camera when I was 20. A couple years in, when I finally tried taking pictures of others, I was scared! Didn’t want to let the subject down, risk taking a bad picture. Back then I doubted my skill, intention, empathy, somehow disappointed at my novice. Several digital projects never got published - sorry if ur reading this, u know who u are. Turns out digital photo editing is actually the bane of my existence.
Somehow when it felt like the end, I finally realized how precious photographs are, a modern invention made of fossilized memory. Along the way I realized that the love I felt towards others helped me to render them on film in more natural, fun, and spontaneous ways.
Now I can look back and see all the great work (tho sometimes fuzzy) that has been completed, mostly in the span of the last two years. I’m grateful to my friend and roommate for putting a camera back in my hand, to Portland shutterbug for being a great home store, and most of all, to all the beautiful amazing people I have been delighted to capture this summer and in the past :) you’re all so smart and funny and you see me in ways I can’t see myself sometimes. And I’m so so delighted thank you thank you a million thank yous my loves….
…more to come tomorrow - had to separate portrait from landscape formats 🤷🏻‍♀️…instagram says I have to many friends to tag them all….
