weaving tales ✨

Today, I want to share a very special project with you that brings together some of my favorite things: literature, knitting, and nature 📖🧶🌸❤️.

A few years ago, I took a Children’s Literature course that changed my life. For an assignment, I had to create a project based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

I decided to write my own version of the tale and make a hand bound knitted edition. That’s how I met my academic advisor, Paulo from @teoriadasfadas, the greatest suporter of fairy dreams 🧚🏻‍♀️. He helped me grow even closer to literature and discover my own unique way of working with what I love.

I am so grateful and happy for the opportunities that public university has given me—and for all those yet to come ❤️. This is something that must be defended: our right to quality education, culture, and so much more.

Sometimes that 1x1 deep brim feels like a never ending story, but it's always worth it when the beanie is intended for someone with a XXL head, thick curly hair or locs 👩‍🦱

I like to do at least 5" so the brim can be doubled over, or left long so the hat can be slouchy, depending on the wearer's preference. I'm at 4.5" and very tempted to start the body of the hat, but that half inch does make a difference, cos when it comes to knitting, size definitely matters 😜

This colour always makes me happy 😁 so does this song from @thekooks 🎶

The last beanie I knit with this colourway came out a touch too snug for someone with thick locs, so I gave that one to my good friend's, son's, girlfriend... as you do 😆

🧶 #YellowInspiration from @lonniebunnys_enchantedyarns inspired by @kaydenskozies love of fresh, citrusy colours

📋 #CircumvoluteHat by @hunterhammersen with a slight tweak to the number of stitches per pattern repeat, in order to make the brim 1x1 rib

@green.arrow.yarns has the nicest knitting circle. I made so many friends there. It’s often been the highlight of my week to go spend time with everyone. Today, they had a celebration with delicious cookies (thanks Hunter!!). I will miss Tuesdays at Green Arrow Yarns. Thank you everyone for the friendship and wonderful hilarious stories from “Hortense”

A very belated start to July's socks but such a perfect pairing of yarn (@thefarmersdaughterfibers Highwood Sock in "Tides") and pattern (@hunterhammersen Flowed Socks)! 🌊🫧

Best possible combo of lightly shifting colors and the joy of an easily memorized geometric chart, I'm not even minding that these are probably also my August socks 🤭☀️

@hunterhammersen! I love it so much. This is such a cool thing to keep in my stash, I think it’ll be useful beyond emergencies too!

Taking a teensy break from the cardigan to work on this #CircumvoluteHat this time using Version A charts (pattern by @hunterhammersen I made a green Version B recently 🥰)

I'm using this delightful deep pink from @lefranceshandmade that was included in the #FiberIsMyJam collab with @channypeascorner It's hard to capture the true colour, it's not quite as warm and red as this photo is showing. I'm pretty sure I've still got the little mini skein of green that came with it, that I might use for a pompom 🍓

Project complete! a notebook paper blanket (no person for scale but that’s a six foot fence)
Pattern: it’s just a garter stitch rectangle with an applied crochet chain line, although I did use @hunterhammersen’s formula for the proportions
Yarn: Big Twist Baby Bear

Episode 292 is now available on YouTube 🎉

Marie is wearing her finished Trescao Jumper by @along.avec.anna #and has also cast on the Syltrose Breeze in Tulips and Navy by @dagmar.knitsandmore , plus a baby sized DK Flax Jumper for @tincanknits As if that wasn’t enough, she is also working away on the Fir Rib Skinny Scarf by @westknits too! 🧶

Dominique has cast on the Fading Memories Cowl by @annbuddknits using Midnight and Tulips, and it’s looking gorgeous already.

There was lots of discussion about the fabulous Sequin Fluff and plenty of pattern inspiration shared for it too. There was also an appearance from a very unusual slipper pattern the Linearty by @hunterhammersen which had everyone frantically searching for where to find it! 🤣 #woolistheanswer #syltrosebreeze #fadingmemoriescowl #lineartyslippers

Grab a cuppa, get your knitting and crochet at the ready, and come and join us for a cosy catch-up ☕🧶
