CAPTION 👇🏼

One of the things I love most about the fitness industry in Tassie is the community we're lucky enough to be part of. 🖤

Every gym has its own flavour, its own space, its own vibe and its own people. And behind every one of those spaces is a gym owner who's poured countless hours, hard work, passion and sacrifice into building something they're proud of.

The Hobart fitness community is pretty bloody special, and I love being able to step into someone else's space, experience what they've built and support the people doing great things in our little Tassie fitness world.

Thanks for letting me come play, @assemblytraining 💥💪🏼

Looking forward to having your crew out at @hypegym_ for a playdate soon!

Different spaces. Same passion. One big community. 🤝

On Sunday 01 November, join us at the beautifully restored Palazzo Campania, for an afternoon designed to strengthen, educate, and connect women.

You’ll move through a 45‑minute beginner‑friendly mat Pilates session followed by an inspiring industry panel featuring three local women professionals.

In honour of Women’s Health Week, they’ll share powerful insights on training as women — touching on subjects as such perimenopause, menopause, nutrition and burnout in a relaxed panel couch discussion.

After class and conversation, enjoy a slow moment together with a specialty drink and a sweet treat catered by Brine in the courtyard.

A Sunday dedicated to movement, knowledge, and community — all in one stunning venue.

A little reminder that you don't have to be naturally good at everything - READ THIS CAPTION!!

This year I set myself the goal of learning TTB (toes to bar).

And I'll be honest… I struggled with this one. Not just physically, but mentally.

I'm someone who finds it really hard NOT being good at something straight away. I like to feel capable. I like to feel strong. And when something doesn't come naturally, my first instinct is to avoid it.

Every failed attempt made me want to stop trying. Every time I couldn't get the rhythm, the kip or the movement right, I questioned why I was even bothering.

And that's a pretty vulnerable place to be when you're used to being the one coaching, teaching and encouraging others.

But with a little support, a lot of practice, some uncomfortable moments and a willingness to be a beginner… I finally nailed it this year.

And the biggest lesson wasn't actually learning TTB.

It was learning to be okay with not being good at something. To put my ego aside. To accept help. To keep showing up even when I felt frustrated.

Because being strong doesn't mean being good at everything. Sometimes being strong means being willing to suck at something long enough to get better.

So here's your reminder…

That person you're watching smash out pull-ups, lift heavy weights, run effortlessly or string together gymnastics movements?

They were a beginner once too.

They failed reps. They doubted themselves. They had awkward first attempts.

You just might not have seen that part of their journey.

Don't let being a beginner stop you from becoming someone you're proud of. ❤️

I wouldn’t train at @hypegym_ unless you wanted to be part of Tassie’s premier gym, surrounded by a phenomenal group of people 😉

LIFT HEAVIER. NOT JUST LONGER.

Still avoiding heavier weights because you're scared of getting bulky?

Its probably the most common line we hear when people apply for our programming.

Yet you'll happily spend 45 minutes on the treadmill trying to burn as many calories as possible?

Let's clear something up....

Lifting heavier weights won't suddenly make you huge. Building significant muscle takes time, consistency, progressive overload and the right nutrition.

Cardio burns calories. Strength training builds the body you're working towards.

Here's what a lot of people overlook...

When you're trying to lose weight, the goal shouldn't just be to see a smaller number on the scales.

It should be to lose body fat while maintaining as much lean muscle as possible.

And THAT'S where strength training becomes incredibly valuable.

✅ Preserves muscle during fat loss.
✅ Improves body composition.
✅ Builds strength and functional capacity.
✅ Supports metabolic health.
✅ Helps you become stronger, fitter and more capable.

Does that mean cardio is pointless? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Cardio is fantastic for your heart, endurance and overall health. It can also be incredibly effective for supporting fat loss.

But here's the thing...

You don't need to choose between being strong and being fit. You can be BOTH.

Stop chasing the highest calorie burn on your watch.

Stop being afraid to increase the weight.

Stop assuming that sweating more means you're achieving more.

Start training with PURPOSE.

Because the goal isn't just to weigh less.

It's to build a stronger, healthier, more capable body that serves you for LIFE.

Be honest... have you ever avoided lifting heavier because you were worried about getting bulky?

I'm the other half of ScareyFit.

Although I might be the quieter half, don't mistake that for a lack of drive & knowledge.

I've tried many different things over the years, including competitive boxing, bodybuilding and fitness competitions in between. The sacrifices that come with doing what you believe in are real. Boxing and bodybuilding were very selfish sports, but I thrived on the dedication and discipline.

Move into motherhood. I couldn't train. I was on bed rest. The biggest mental challenge & best experience of my life.

Postpartum, starting from scratch. In a new body. With new responsibilities and new time restrictions.

To now. 2.5 years on. Feeling strong in a whole new way. Not just strong in lifting weights, but functionally.

I've developed skills and knowledge, added gymnastics and calisthenics movements like BMU and TTB, and compound movements with the bars. I've felt stronger and fitter in this body than I ever have, despite balancing motherhood, shift work and training others. Not being as selfish as I once was, and not having the free time I once did.

Training is still a HUGE part of me, but it's not my entire world. There's life, and that's what I train for. To show my son, and myself, health, strength, discipline and fun.

I look forward to hearing your stories and helping you on your own journeys.

Want to build a bigger engine?

Let's talk AEROBIC CAPACITY.

Yesterday's session was all about building the engine, not just emptying the tank.

When we talk about aerobic capacity, we're talking about your body's ability to take in, transport and utilise oxygen to produce energy during exercise.

And here's why that matters:

A stronger cardiovascular system
Aerobic training helps improve how efficiently your heart delivers oxygen-rich blood to working muscles.

Better endurance
The stronger your aerobic engine, the better equipped you are to sustain effort over longer periods without fatiguing as quickly.

Improved recovery
A well-developed aerobic system helps you recover between hard efforts, meaning you can maintain performance across repeated intervals.

Greater training efficiency
Building your aerobic base allows you to tolerate more training volume and supports performance when intensity increases.

SO WHY THE ERG?

Whether it's the SkiErg, rower or bike, ergs are fantastic tools for developing aerobic fitness.

Low-impact conditioning
Measurable and repeatable efforts
Easy to manipulate intensity and duration
Great for developing endurance without the repetitive impact of running

BUT HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE OFTEN GET WRONG...

Not every cardio session needs to leave you lying on the floor questioning your life choices

Aerobic development comes from a combination of controlled, sustainable efforts and appropriately programmed higher-intensity intervals.

The goal isn't always to go faster.

Sometimes it's about holding the same pace with a lower heart rate, maintaining consistent output across intervals, or recovering quicker between efforts.

THAT'S PROGRESS.

Strength builds the muscles.
Aerobic conditioning builds the engine.
Smart programming brings them together.

Train with purpose. Not just to feel exhausted.

💬 Are you intentionally training your aerobic capacity, or just doing cardio to burn calories?

Your body doesn’t know the difference between a stressful Monday and a brutal workout.

Training is stress.
Work is stress.
Poor sleep is stress.
Under-eating is stress.
Kids, deadlines, life admin… yep, stress too.

And while stress isn’t inherently bad (we actually NEED training stress to adapt and get fitter), the magic happens when we can recover from it.

So if you’ve slept terribly, work is chaos and you’re running on caffeine and good intentions… adding another savage HIIT session might not be what your body needs that day.

And before we blame cardio...

Cardio isn’t the enemy. Cortisol isn’t the enemy.
Walking, Zone 2, running, conditioning AND strength training can all have a place in a well-balanced program.

The question is:
What dose can you recover from right now?
Some weeks we push.
Some weeks we maintain.
Some weeks we pull back.

None of those weeks are wasted.

Stop training for the perfectly rested, perfectly fed, stress-free version of yourself that rarely exists.
Train for the life you’re actually living. 🖤

Save this one for your next chaotic week — and send it to the friend who thinks every workout needs to leave them on the floor.

When did fitness get so complicated?

Cold plunges.
Greens powders.
Recovery scores.
Supplements for your supplements.
Perfect macros.
10k steps.
Zone 2.
Morning routines.
Sleep scores.
HRV.
And apparently if you’re not doing all of it… you’re falling behind.

Don’t get me wrong — some of these things can be useful.

But somewhere along the way, we started majoring in the 1% and forgetting about the 99% that actually matters.

1. Lift weights consistently.
2. Get your heart rate up regularly.
3. Move your body.
4. Eat enough protein and mostly nutritious food.
5. Drink water.
6. Sleep.
7. Recover.
8. And have a bloody life.

You don't need to optimise every second of your day to be healthy.

And you definitely don't need to turn looking after yourself into another full-time job.

Master the basics before you start worrying about the hacks.

The boring stuff isn't sexy.

But it works.

We've spent YEARS being taught that progress looks like one thing:

A smaller number on the scales.
But what if you trained for something else?

What if instead of asking:
“How much weight did I lose?”

You started asking:
Am I faster?
Am I stronger?
Is my cardiovascular fitness improving?
Can I handle more work?
Am I recovering better?

Because you can lose zero kilos and still become significantly fitter, stronger and more capable.
And THAT is progress.

Your body isn't just something to make smaller.
It's something to train, fuel and use.

So here's your challenge:
Pick ONE performance number you'd like to improve over the next 8–12 weeks.
Forget the scales for a minute.

What are you choosing? 👇
Strength | VO₂ max | Run time | Recovery | Something else?
