The lady of the day. @mskimj 60th

I’ve never cared much for birthday celebrations. Parties are cool, but I’ve always felt that every day is worth celebrating—not just the ones marked on a calendar. That way of thinking, at times, can come across as thoughtless to people I love.

Life has taught me that love isn’t only about what’s in your heart—it’s about making sure the people you love can actually feel it. Sometimes that means showing up for them in the ways that matter most to them, even when it doesn’t carry the same meaning for you.

I’m grateful I learned that lesson quickly enough for my mother to feel it in real time.

This was her 60th birthday celebration.

My wife, my siblings and their significant others, Jazz, Crystal, my grandmother, and friends of the family—who, at this point, are simply family—came together to make this happen.

And it was a success.

I’m sharing it with the world simply because it’s worth seeing.

I want to take credit but some things you’re just born with.

One day I’ll tell yall the story of how Bri and Me cursed each other out hours before the party because I messed up the venue selection and she dropped the ball on the chicken and the fish.
In the end, everything worked out perfect and the tension was high because we cared. Still not one of my proudest moments but it worked out in the end.

Bri is the first child I had a hand in raising. I was still a child myself and had no business having that responsibility but life isn’t always perfect. With that being said, love you forever. Hope that’s always understood and felt.
