Art informed by the land, elements of fictioning, folklore, frolicking.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It was a pleasure to be apart of @breadandbutterexhibition @gallery46whitechapel in June. We took our degree show up to London which had as many challenges as successes but overall it was a wonderful learning experience and fab to have shown my work in a proper white cube!

I chose to exhibit “Shepherds Delight” and an untitled piece, neither shown in the Falmouth University degree show, as I wanted to show my technical skills learnt this year and my evolving enquiry into surrealism, reverence and the mystical.

Separate rooms but portals to one another.

Huge well done to all those curating, organising and marketing. And a massive congratulations to all Falmouth Fine Art graduates who showed work.

Degree Show Opening Night (+install) May’26

Only now, six weeks later does the dust feel settled.

I couldn’t have done any of the install or curation without Iona, Charlie or Nina. Thank you all so so much.
What an emotional time but i’m so excited for the next unfolding…

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: IONA BLUE
@i0na

My work is a ritual, a dance, a conversation, discourse between values and understanding of the land. Bonding the themes of ritual, folk traditions, cultural identity and nationalism. There is a magic of putting on a costume, you are bewitching the viewer to see you as different or more than yourself. It’s a garment of transformation. A becoming. You inhabit something else; someone else. Like old tales of those who could change their skin. Become a hare, raven, seal or even another human. Shrouded in a layer of disguise. In this costume I become a critique, a fool, a theory, an opinion. My performance partner embodies a rebel to mainstream narrative, a person of the land, a connected one. I believe it should be me- the artist to wear the costume that represents the darker side of humanity, to be uncomfortable and investigate what it means to bear that burden.

CHECK OUT IONA’S WORK FROM 11th-14th JUNE AT GALLERY 46 @breadandbutterexhibition @gallery46whitechapel

Lupoborous by Millicent Rose

Oh, beautifully illusive one,
Make truth my primary object.
For I dwell in reverie
Yet I desire divinity.

Spirit, permeate flesh of maker and made.
Distort my horizons and reveal the heavenly realm.
Meld landscape with memory.
Place living stone within oval.

May I reclaim ambiguity with vague goddess.
Permeating impermanence as portal.
A thin nothingness between something.

I intend to walk within the veil of the temple of nature,
A home, not somewhere to visit.
To listen to every gestation,
Determined to judge for myself.
Teeth to tail,
Lupoborous.

🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽

Lupoborous: lupus (Latin for wolf) + ouroborous (ancient symbol of snake eating its own tail). I merged these words together to represent the eternal never ending destruction and rebirth of all things, as well as the unity of all things. integrated with the wild self, of a she-wolf, Women who run with the wolves has been a crucial book for my self and artistic development. I work quietly in the shadows. All should read this book.

Iona and I birthed this altar together, yielding dirt divinity. We curated together the room as a dance, a reclamation of ritual and land. Rusty metal pieces alongside precious shells and florals. Representing the infinite divinity of the feminine. Thank you thank you thank you
