Many of you have been part of our story for years, but to all our new friends—welcome. This is our story.
📖💛
My name is Davina Ferreira, and in 2019 I had a dream: to create a mobile bookstore dedicated to the Latin American literature I grew up loving and to the emerging Latine voices that too often struggle to find space in mainstream publishing.
📖💛
Books and creative writing saved my life as a young woman growing up in Colombia. I wanted to create a place where someone else could discover that same magic.
📖💛
So I bought an old 1997 van for $2,400 dollars.
📖💛
With recycled materials from past Alegría events, the help of my family, a lot of faith, and even more love, we transformed her into Lolita—our little bookstore on wheels. 🚐📚✨
📖💛
For the past 7 years, Lolita has traveled throughout Los Angeles, serving thousands of people of all ages—from schools and community events to major book festivals—bringing Latin American literature and emerging underrepresented voices directly to our communities.
📖💛
I have personally helped sustain this bookstore through my own income because I believe deeply in this mission. Asking for help doesn’t come naturally to me…but I’m learning that community also means allowing others to help carry the dream.

And now, Lolita needs us.

Our 1997 van needs repairs and a little more love so she can keep rolling into her next chapter.
