On our radar: Territories by Fernando Mastrangelo, now on view at Cristina Grajales Gallery.

Through sculptural landscapes made from sand, glass, and mineral pigments, the exhibition explores ideas of land, borders, ownership, and belonging.

A striking example of material and meaning working hand in hand.

I’m so honored and humbled by the turnout at the opening of ‘Territories’ last week. From interior designers I’ve worked with for over a decade, to collectors who flew in from California and even Paris, to grad school friends and longtime collaborators, so many friendly faces came to share their excitement for the new work, and it meant the world to me. Thank you all, I’m truly touched.

If you missed opening night, the show will be up at @cristinagrajalesgallery through February 12, with select pieces going to Salon Art + Design @thesalonny and Design Miami @designmiami later this year. Can’t wait!

Congratulations to Fernando Mastrangelo on the opening of Territories at Cristina Grajales Gallery!

A beautiful exploration of nature, art, and design. Fascinating to see how materials like sand, glass, and earth can be transformed into such remarkable works.

A lovely evening surrounded by inspiring art and wonderful people.

The new solo exhibition by Fernando Mastrangelo, ‘TERRITORIES’, at Cristina Grajales Gallery, is quite extraordinary. This new body of work really takes Mastrangelo’s prior work to a new level. He continues to use crushed glass and sand, with rare earth oxides as pigment, to create landscapes. With this work, he expands into furniture and more lighting. Particularly outstanding are the cabinet, credenza, and side tables. Congratulations, Fernando. On view through February 1, 2027. @iamfm @cristinagrajalesgallery #collectibledesign #furniture #nyc

In his latest exhibition, Territories, at Cristina Grajales Gallery, artist and designer Fernando Mastrangelo transforms landscapes into sculptural furniture using sand, crushed glass, and rare earth oxides. Through layered topographies and intricate textures, the works explore the relationship between land, identity, and ownership, revealing how the natural world can become a site of both beauty and conflict. The result is a compelling body of work that pairs striking material experimentation with a deeper meditation on the forces that shape our understanding of place.

Mountains you can eat off.

For his first major solo show in nearly a decade - and his debut with Cristina Grajales Gallery, New York - Mastrangelo translates disputed regions into mountainous terrain. Tables, cabinets, mirrors and consoles are cast from sand and crushed glass, with rare-earth oxides lending the earthy pigments.

The Bloodland dining table sends low black mountains across bands of crimson and dusty rose, a topography of Crimea and the Donbas. Other pieces draw on Kashmir and the Golan Heights - geography made physical, land remembered in granular material.

Sand, glass and the shape of contested ground.

October marks a season in flux, making transformation an apt thread through this month’s standout collectible design exhibitions. Designers around the world are revisiting places and materials that have long informed their practice, then pushing them in unexpected directions.

‘Territories’ now on view @cristinagrajalesgallery through Feb 12, 2027

Fernando Mastrangelo’s solo exhibition is a mastery of his signature casting techniques, using hand-dyed sand & powdered glass to create works that evoke both the beauty and tension of geopolitical landscapes.

So honored that @studio.s.ii was asked to help design this polished steel light fixture with @gensler_design for the new @taipingcarpets x @efcarpetmakers showroom. Beam me up! 🛸

Could not have been made without @obsidian.projects and @artcruzn — ya’ll are wizards! @hanna_propst for the expertise and shop drawings that were not only handy, but gorgeous. Thank you for continuing to be my teammate.
