It was such a rewarding and validating experience working with and directing Kkuumba and Patrick, who play Aliyah’s parents in Cartes. During rehearsals they told me that they could relate so much to the characters they were playing. Patrick said he “could’ve written this himself” as he has the same conversation around the dinner table with his own daughters. It was very important for me to cast actors of West African descent who would have a connection to the story and could authentically portray the characters. #BTS 🎥

As a leader in my industry I am always striving to promote diversity in front of and behind the camera. I will be honest... in the entertainment industry the percentage of POC behind the camera is not high and it’s not easy finding people with the experience or portfolio to hire. I realize that might be because of employers not giving POC the chance to gain that experience in the branded world. My team and I are dedicated to ensuring equality across all roles and we want to work with you!
Something I always preach is “See and encourage potential”. If you have the drive, if you have the craft, if you have the mind set... we want to give you the chance.
If you are a black creative or know someone that is a black creative trying to break into the industry and interested in branded content please reach out.
You can DM or email. Email is in the photo.
Much love to you all. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽❤️🏳️‍🌈 #blm
