For the last two years, Kiesha Garrison (@kiesha_garrison) has been teaming up with two other Black women to create experiences centered on Black classical music. “The catalogue is there,” she says of the compositions they draw from—and she loves helping raise awareness of it.

Garrison serves as the storyteller of these events, which are curated and sung by soprano Stephanie Ann Ball (@iamstephaball), with piano by Jessica Evotia Andrews-Hall (@thejesshall).

More from Garrison’s video episode at link in bio!

My sweet Biddy crossed the rainbow this morning. It’s been hell being on the road while she declined but I had to be. She waited for me. Slept by her side all night. And this morning, she let us know it was time.

This cat, talk about a cat with miles! Born in Chicago, adopted by me in Austin, and traveled with me to St. Louis, New York, and Philly. 5 cities and probably 15 apartments. She definitely saw the inside of a carrier more than any cat would want to see.

I always said she was the most un-cat-like cat you’d ever meet. Didn’t want toys, didn’t want scratch posts, didn’t like treats, didn’t climb on things or scratch the furniture (except in her passive aggressive way of shredding a loose piece of paper to wake me up and feed her). She was perfectly happy with her kibble and a scratch box. If she wanted to play, all I had to do was give her a wine cork and she’d knock that thing around.

Everyone who met her thought she was the sweetest thing. And she was! She wasn’t social, but she always accepted a pet and a scratch, for about 45 seconds. She was beautiful. To be 19 and look as she did.

Thank you @tomsitzlerbaritone and @iamstephaball for taking care of her and loving her.

When I first saw her scurry across her first owners room back in 2010, I had no idea one day I would be her daddy. And I’m so glad I could be. She brought me so much joy, was my companion during lockdown, and my constant everything when times were tough.

I love you always, my precious baby.

From one incredible event to another! “Freedom Dream” was a beautiful concert offered by spoken word artist @kiesha_garrison , soprano and curator @iamstephaball , pianist @thejesshall , joined by @oni_harris on djembe @plymouthchurchseattle on 6/16/24. This offering required that we remember the truth of black enslavement, honor the power of resilience and liberation from the personal to the collective and challenged us to understand that the systems of colonialism and oppression are still doing their damage here and abroad. Our fight for personal and collective liberation is still needed. I was moved, challenged and fortified! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Here, Kiesha is welcoming us in and honoring DeCharlene Williams.

Sometimes I truly feel abandoned in this world. Ya know what…….

I NEED TO KNOCK THAT SHIT OFF!!!!!

Back to back today, my beautiful friend @divavoce came in to visit for lunch. We caught up and had a lovely time. Then I had a phone chat with @weathermanstyle and caught up on each others crazy lives and drama. And right after that, a phone call with @doughboynyc who gave me some sage advice and sympathy over an issue I’m dealing with. On top of that, @iamstephaball and I took a walk and discussed working together to uncover and work on past baggage, demons, traumas so I can move forward in life. Yeah, I’m very clearly not abandoned.

That said, it gets hard to think otherwise when you look at your past. When you see those that walked away from you, those who never gave you a chance, who took and never gave, they can add up and give you a sense of feeling unloveable, unworthy, unimportant. Sometimes “counting your blessings” can feel impossible when you are always counting your losses. And it’s not a matter of just refocusing, sometimes it’s finding that thing that holds on that you need to let go of.

I have no idea where 2024 is going to go, but my goal is to find these things, face them, and let them go.

I love all my friends. You are family.🩵🩵🩵
