The Voidblade Ascends

Every detail, from the razor-edge of the blade to the unyielding stance, demands attention. The metallic flourishes catch the light like captured stars, while the deep cerulean armor radiates dominance.

A striking addition to the battlefield, finished to perfection and ready to carve its place in glory.

That’s it. No Retreat XIII is in the past – and the dreaded but inevitable post-No Retreat depressino is sinking in. What an incredible event it was again. @SN_battlereports truly have managed to create the absolute pinnacle of 40k events, where tournament and hobby celebration are completely intertwined.

Massive thanks to @captain_pardo and @shaggy_peoples_champ for organizing what really is the highlight of each year for me. It’s hard to descirbe what an amazing time I and everyone else had, so here’s a slide show of what happened:

Pic 2 Game 1 Against @s0ldierzer0 and his beautifully recreated teenage Eldar army.
Pic 3 Game 2 against Event Runner-Up @daniel.ask.9 and his Custodes
Pic 4 Game 3 against the legendary Spider Lawrence Baker of @tabletoptactics and his event-winning stunning looking Emperor’s Children.
Pic 5 Game 4 against my arch-nemesis and Player's Player World Eaters player @coffee_cups_and_greenstuff of @theredpath8

There's so many others I'd love to thank for their part in what is the best event of the year but I can't due to space limitations. You know who you are ❤️❤️❤️

No Retreat 14 done and dusted.

The post No Retreat blues have settled and life have started getting back into its groove.

I considered making day to day tournament posts, but simply ended up not having the time.

The reason for this is simple: people!

This years NR attendees was off the rocks. Better folks to hang with are few and far between! We simply played, talked and hung out from sun up till bedtime.

I decided to enjoy the moment and not miss a moment.

I got to hang with many friends of old, meet now friends and show my great buddy @daniel.ask.9 “Dask” Gibraltar!
Though I didn’t manage to get a game in against either @beyondthetabletop or @imperiumgaming120 it was great to see Phil and Ian again, that alone was worth every penny.

The armies was off the scale, with Roi @elroi_101 back in the mix and @achlys_minis knocking it out the park, the bar was set high! I didn’t manage to snatch any prizes, but I was proud to see my good buddies Phil and @timpaintsminis both take prizes! Every winner deserved their prize and to sit amongst such great hobbyists is truly humbling!

I came out of the tournament with 1 win and 4 losses, which I’m more than happy with! Five great games, against five awesome adversaries!

The overall winner of the tournament was @tabletoptactics Lawrence Baker, whom I didn’t manage to talk a whole lot with, but who seems like a genuine boss of a human being.

My mate Dask came in second, actually scoring the most points overall, but coming away with 4/1😳 super proud and real glad to have been part of his journey.

So much went down and there isn’t enough space to share it all here. The BBQ, which was delicious and followed by a tour of the SN studio (where we definitely didn’t touch anything), crossing the rubicon with the early morning gang and drinking so much Piña colada, that there can’t be a single pineapple left anywhere.

I’ll simply sign off with a huge thanks to all the attendees and the @snbattlereports crew. @captain_pardo and @shaggy_peoples_champ ran a tight ship and the event felt truly special. Thanks everybody 😁

Now I’m back home I can do a final wrap up of @snbattlereports No Retreat 13. It’s been my fifth time attending, I first attended NR6 back in 2018 where I’d won an SN Award for my Krieg. This is the first time I’ve not taken my Krieg and I’m really pleased to have come away with another SN award for my Thunder Warriors. It was also really lovely to have lots of people say nice things about the army too, I really appreciated it!

As for the games, I only won 2 and lost 3, coming 14th out of 26 and top of the 2-3 bracket. I weirdly scored 60points in 3 of my games, so I’m nothing if not consistent in my scoring. I’d lost to two people who placed in the top 5, so congrats to them for doing so well. I also lost to two Custodes players, so I’m also very lore accurate. 🤣

It was a really great experience, from the sculpting course provided by @anphiarus to all hobby chats with the other players, so I wanted to post some of those photos here. The whole experience has been the best No Retreat yet and certainly helped make me appreciate 40K more, having spent the year mostly playing AoS.

I’ve lots of other projects to work on but I do plan to add more to my Thunder Warriors!

For Unity!

I cannot express how proud and happy I am to be returning to the Rock for my fourth consecutive No Retreat, this hobby experience is the pinnacle of 40K in my mind, and going once is absolutely worth it.

As ever I am immensely grateful to the absolute legends at SN for giving me this opportunity to see such a talented and inspiring group of hobbyists, some of which over the years I am proud to call good friends.

Cannot wait to get stuck in and roll some dice!

And that's it. NO RETREAT XII is officially over. What an intense, wonderful, fun, amazing experience it has been.

THANK YOU to the entire @sn_battlereports team for the perfect organisation and to all the lovely chaps (and some of their better halves) who flew over from many places on the globe. This has been the single best 40k event I have been to ever!

Besides the beautiful location, the amazing tables, stunning armies, and wicked games, a few among many many highlights for me were:
🤩❤️ finally and amazingly meeting my amazing BFF the amazing @dt_studio_painting
🐺👹 learning how to sculpt wolf pelts from, getting drunk with the always generous @Anpharius⁩ and admiring his stunning baby devil tattoo
🐒👊 @scriv_paints bravely fighting off the monkeys and getting his sunnies back
🏃🐒 @dt_studio_painting doing the absolute opposite and losing his toe -just the tip though.
⚙️🪓 the First and Last Hurrah of my Terrax Pattern Assault Drill in a 40k event...
🤢🤮 meeting and driving to the Rock with the always humble and hilarious @⁨paintspillcurse and getting to battle his beautiful Nurgle Daemons *clap clap*
🤖🤖 fighting against not one, not two, but no less than 7 big Chaos Knights and 13 Wardogs over three (yes, BCP paired me with all 3 chaos knights players of the 26-man tournament) awesome games against the amazing @⁨dt_studiopainting, @⁨nathanjewellio and @⁨smbarne40k
🤩💀practicing with, and finally having just the best last game against @⁨Oli.Stubbs⁩
😅😅 finally understanding how secondaries work in 9th
🐟🪓 planning a Khornate Commander Farsight-off with @fortyk.w
🐤🍹no more rubber ducky bathtub cocktails but soooo many PIÑA COLADA'S - @joshwaatattoo would ❤️🍍
🦍🌭 Sasquatch Sausage!

And many more.
