A message from my beautiful friend Steve Sprite - I am extremely humbled for everyone coming together for this incredible cause. In 2024, I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, CLL, a blood cancer. Although, my blood panels are terrible and moving in the wrong direction, I have been fortunate and don't have symptoms or require treatment yet. I am doing this to help others. Through my work with Blood Cancer United, I've met people, including young children, who aren't as lucky. Many are fighting every day through difficult treatments, emotional hardship, and overwhelming medical expenses. Some medications cost over $10,000 a month. Sprite Jam is not just a Jam, it’s a powerful event, that I hope will leave you proud to have attended. Every person who attends helps raise awareness, brings hope, and helps support families who need it most. Fresh food. Human connection. A call to do more. ❤️ Today, our SHE IS HOPE Realty team assembled over 60 bags of fresh fruits, vegetables, and salads and took them to our unhoused neighbors on Skid Row with some volunteers from SHE IS HOPE LA! One person opened their bag and said, “Wow, look - I got vegetables!” 🥦 People reached for strawberries, took bites, smiled, and thanked us. Sharing fresh, healthy food and creating moments of connection was good for the soul. 🍓❤️ But it also brought heartbreak and anger. Homelessness extends far beyond Skid Row: to RVs lining our streets, tents beneath bridges, and people we pass every day whose stories we may never know. We cannot accept this as normal. We need more from our city, our leaders, and all of us. No single organization can solve homelessness alone. We need collaboration and solutions that address overlapping needs: • Substance use treatment and recovery support • Accessible mental health care • Affordable housing • Support for veterans • Health care solutions Every person’s circumstances are different, and our response must reflect that. Los Angeles can do better. With compassion, coordination, resources, advocacy, and follow-through, we can create a city where everyone has a safe place to call home.
