⭐ Welcome to the latest episode of our Econ Honours Student Spotlight Series!
Meet another one of this year’s Honours students!

Today we’re featuring Ian Witte @ian.witte.79 💛

Q: What’s your go-to study snack?

Oranges

Q: What do you like to do for fun? Hobbies?

Hiking, powerlifting, bad movie watching, and knitting

Q: Do you have any pets? Name? Breed?

I have a cactus named Pickles.

Q: What motivated you to pursue the Honours program?

It seemed like a great opportunity to push myself and get the most out of my degree. Turns out it's both those things and a ton of fun, it's been my favorite course I've taken in my undergrad.

Q: What have you enjoyed most about the program?

Getting to work with my fellow honors students as been my favorite part. The program is full of smart, driven, fun people and it's been a joy struggling with all of them as we desperately try and get Overleaf to compile properly.

Q: Who is your honours thesis supervisor?

Felix Pretis

Q: What is your thesis topic? Or, if you don’t have a topic yet, what area are you interested in focusing on?

I'm researching how an ongoing relationship changes bargaining process and outcomes for Ebay transactions. What happens when buyers and sellers begin to know each other? My work is examining how differing levels of that relationship interact with offer amounts and final settling prices.

Q: What advice would you give to students considering the honours program?

If you have the drive, do it! The level of support and comraderie you receive more than balances out the difficulty. If you pick a subject you're passion about (which I think you should) it'll feel less like work and more like a big playground you get

A bit of sunshine on the Sunshine Coast Trail!🌞🥾⛰️

—————————
Trip Report🗣️🗣️
—————————

Day 1:
the group woke up nice and early to make it to Powell river for a gorgeous day of hiking along the sunshine coast. 18km up to the first cabin at Manzanita bluff made for a difficult night, as rain and slush set in. Making it to the cabin was a sweet relief from the elements and the morning gave us gorgeous views when the clouds cleared.

Day 2:
the hike to Rievely's Pond, a cabin with a loft overlooking a spot on trail known for its chorus of frogs. The day was smooth up and down, with the group making it in high spirits before nightfall.

Day 3:
the final push out to make our ferry on time!

One of the prettiest parts of the trail was when we hiked down to Powell River and the Shinglemill pub, where the crew enjoyed a well deserved burger and refreshments.

Overall, a hard but rewarding 50km of hiking for a wonderful weekend with great people!

🌞
We’re looking forward to more adventures for the 25/26 school year, if you’re keen for any trails shoot us a message and we’ll try to make it happen!🥾🏔️🚵🧗

After an atmospheric river threw a wrench into our Cape Scott plans, it was decided that we should go for something else this past weekend. The Juan de Fuca Trail was settled on and it couldn’t have been any sweeter!

We were treated to gorgeous weather, so many whales, trail mayo, great stories, and a surprise run in with folks from @camping_shenanigans

Thanks to everyone who made the time to come out and stay tuned for the next one!

The Sierra! If u look closely in one of these selfies,, a testament to how bad the mozzies truly were, u will see one sucking the blood out of my forehead! And I just didn’t even care anymore! I really do miss slapping those critters off myself, and I miss wet feet for a week straight, I miss postholing oddly enough! There’s just something that shoved those endorphins into overdrive when you’re walking through challenges like that! I’ll miss eating a raw block of ramen on the way up forester pass bc I was so hungry and didn’t plan for enough food! I miss the Sierra trail fam! You guys r perhaps the funniest group of people I have been around! And livin in the wilderness with u guys was like a constant sleepover how fun! Anyway water, smudge! Trip! Monterey 🤪! Dicey! Rug! The discussions had at breaks and camps, I’ll never forget ! The many inside jokes! The weird flexes in front of JMT hikers ! Laughing at a meme for a week straight! All in what I believe is the most gorgeous mountain range I have yet to see! Here’s some pics! Hope y’all r well! :) #pct2019 #pacificcresttrail #sierra

Alright....fine..I DO miss it!! The beauty of the Sierra Nevada is unlike anything I have seen before. Nothing like 95 degrees in October to make you miss 60 degrees in July! #pct2019 #sierranevada
