@whiskerman album release party TONITE at @elismilehighclub w/ besties @suzanimal_sf & new hero of mine @noaalark! Rumor has it Eli’s will shut down next month if you don’t roll thru tonite so… no presh… but like ;( I’m driving up from LA right now just for this so it would mean a lot. @grahampatzner informed me there will be many special guests sitting in with us so all signs are pointing to it potentially kinda goin off and maybe even possibly being the greatest night of our evergreen lives and an homage to our fading beauty, the ephemeral intersection of music and community, and the crumbling bastion of late stage capitalism.

“American Hell” was 5 years in the making but some songs on the record, like “Osiris” and “the master” I remember Graham teaching me 10 years ago and having my mind blown, as is often the case with his songwriting. Some tunes, like “Ram’s Head” are live staples from well before my tenure in the band, evolving over time and being re-recorded to capture their final form.

Many sessions during lockdown over zoom with @charlesdavidlloyd composing gorgeous dueling slide guitarmonies and battling latency forging the alchemy we fondly refer to as Steel & Glass.

I remember the homies moshing and crowdsurfing to “black river” at grassroots fests that are now no more, vanquished by plague and fire. I remember being moved to tears hearing @trevorbahnson and Graham duet on the devastating closer “Jack of Spades” written for their friend Lisa Donnelly, who passed before I was in the fold yet who I know through this song.

Proud of the band, honored to play a part in it, grateful to @ianpellicci at @brotherschineserecording for engineering it and splitting mix duties with @cianthreetimes and @royaloakie for putting it out on vinyl and CD, available for the first time at the show. Big thanks to @korythibeault for the 📸 , mgmt & booking 🙏

Lots of life is encapsulated in this petroleum byproduct and kudos to ol GP and all his collaborators for getting it over the finish line in all its ornery glory.

Yada yada yada… etcetera etcetera etcetera…

C u 2nite! ✌️❤️ 🎸

Selfies I gone and took.

A lot happened this year. I toured Europe. I gave a work talk to 2000 people. I pestered my friends into taking selfies. And I did my level best to be as present as possible for Marlow, who I love beyond the edges of the limited imagination I had when she was born two years ago today.

Parenthood can envelop you completely -- and sometimes, you should let it -- but I tried hard to make room for the people and things that make me feel whole. It wasn't perfect, and it wasn't enough, but it was my best effort, and it matters.

So here are some selfie snippets from a year that I can't believe is finally done. The last one of Marlow and @brookeparrott at the Monterey Aquarium isn't a selfie, but it's the best photo I took in 2025, and I wanted to show you.

There will be feasting and dancing in Jerusalem next year. 🗓️
